in the interest of educating myself i have a question. (please just answer it in a chill way)

do you, as a listener of Hiphop, regularly get offended by hearing rappers say the word "nigga"? why or why not?

who is allowed to say "nigga"? and to who may they say it?

when is it appropriate to say "nigga"

whats your opinion beatoff

I'll let somebody else answer that i'm not posting on this site anymore. I'm sick of the warnings and getting treated like a fucking baby in elemantary school with the warnings and threats of being banned.

well not to but in...... but i think that its defintely not cool to use that word if u are white...seriously...... i mean i got some white dudes that i known since way back and that are in my crew.....been around black people all they life.....more than white... and they still don't say the word.... only time they say it when they rappin the lyrics to a song that has the word in it.... i mean im tight wit them so if they did say it wouldn't bother me...but if stranger says it directed at me..evn if he just tryin to be cool....i take offense... i know it sounds contrcadictory but "nigga" is an exclusive term... for black people only..... if i hear dudes saying that shit..... ill approach them...theey usually apoligize... if they don't ill probably swing on em even though im not and don't consider myself a violent person

i think its a double standard that a black person can call someone else nigga no matter the skin colour but the other person cannot call them the same thing back if they are white

THAT is bullshit

its like me saying "youve got blond hair" and its all good

but then when you say "you have blond hair too"

i will be like "how dare you say i have blond hair"

thats why i said i know its contractdictory... i never said its fair....or right....i don't even really use the word "nigga" that much ...and its kind of annoying when im talking to some friends and evry third word is "nigga"...... all them words words are offensive to groups of poeple...if im in san fransico or somewhere like that...im not gonna go round sayin faggot in evry sentence...ill probablyy get jyumped by a bunch of gay dudes..lol....but seriously.... i say the word "cracker" sometimes to my white friends but just to my friends as a joke...but i dont go round all the time sayin it just to say it or sound cool..."nigga" is the same way.....its cool if u know some black folk and are cool wit them and they don't mind...but not i n public...... think about the word before u say it.....don't just use it like its second nature and part of your vocabulary..i dont know bout australia.....but that isn't cool where im from.....not at all...... and ur last post was just stupid messenger it made no sense and if u knew the proper history of the word u nevr would have said that cause the two aren't comparable in any shape or form..

Mr. Messenger:

The word you are so adamantly claiming is a double standard, if you understand black history in America, which most people from other countries don't understand, is that the initial usage of the words stemmed from the brutality of slavery in the American South, and this derogatory term was used as a symbol of oppressive resentment during the highly racist times of slavery and civil inequity. It has a very bad connotation with what hangings or "lynchings" as Americans call it, which was the mob-murder of black people.

People should be aware of the socially repressive roots the word has. Now it is liberally used because popular culture has embraced through hip-hop music in a different way, but it has an awful history.

What do Aussies call aborigines? Are there derogatory terms for them? What if the derogatory terms they use were suddenly embraced by a popular culture as meaning "friend" and white Australians say it commonly. Does that seem far fetched? I bet it does, but that is a similar situation.

This is a touchy subject, and the word has a bad connotational history, I think people should read about the history and why non-Americans (myself included) may not grasp it and how to better understand other peoples' history.

Sincerely,
God

Show the rationality of your logic.

I am simply using analogical reasoning to show the impact of your statements regarding the USA and AUS.

If I don't understand AUS as much as I should, then I am guilty of what you are guilty of regarding the USA.

God

god.....im am aware of the words history.....but that history is dead. black people themselves use the word nigga amongst themselves and toward others....saying it themselves doesnt seem to conjure up memories of a bad history. if it did, black people wouldnt say "nigga"

a derogitory name for Aboriginals is "Abbos". Ironically, i was listening to the radio the other day and, in the first Aboriginal Hiphop song ive ever heard, the Aboriginal MCs were refering to themselves as "Abbos"

like i said...most people apoligize....them im cool... this might be a newsflash to you... but the average white american doesn't use the word "nigga" in public (or at least in front of black people) they dont even think about it... cause its just not cool.... theres no way around it or to disguise it.......its just not cool....black people use the word out of a sense of pride and identity... since we were stripped of both during times when black were in slavery...... whites made up the term in order to make us feel inferior, dumb, and ignorant...... young blacks have since flipped the term from "nigger" to "nigga" which gives us a new more positive idenityt for ourselves, and it is used regular among many( but not as much as u probably think) blacks. when white people use it, we get angry because they are once again stealin our identities..like they did in slavery....."nigga" out of a white strangers mouth translates into"nigger"...and thats why i swing(but only after i try talking it out) If u wanna be real.....the majority of black people do not regularly use the word..... the majority of black peole are not "hiphoppers" .......because you listen to alot of hip hop and follow the culture u probably genralize blacks as being like that and using those terms so open like that.....but its not your fault....its happens all the time to people because they get brainwashed by records into thinkin that life is like whats on the wax..... but its just entertainment....white people buy the majority of hip hop records by a longshot...they don't want to hear about the positive things and role models, and actions that we as a people do ( and frankly i dont either..i find the hip hop world much more entertaining than the real one)....they want to hear the gangster shit, the party shit, some hot beats and rymhes and raappers talk about how cool it is to be like them........ thats what it is ......now my fingers are cramped
