An Entire Album

Hey y'all,

This is my first post ever so here it goes. I like this forum, there's a lot of talent here and everyone has an open mind. Plus, I've noticed there's a lot of my Canadian people here (representin' Ottawa).

Anyways, I'm working on making an entire album, maybe 12 tracks, and I was wondering how I'm gonna maintain consistency. Like, ya know how when you hear an album everytrack is normalized the same, it all fits together smoothly and it doesnt sound like all the tracks were made at different times and were mastered differently? That's what I want.

---->What mastering programs should I use and how should I construct my songs so they all sound consistently throughout the album?

I use FL Studio, my ghetto analog keyboard, my ghetto 80s turntable, and I think sampling makes the best hip hop.

I would have a professional company do it for me and make a master cd that I can copy from.
You can buy masterig software, just can't remember the names of any as I'm writing this. I think its difficult though, tried working one of these programs at a friend's friend...and I sucked...even though I've read a whole lot about it and watched this guy I know, who works in a pro studio, do some mastering...

If you're looking for a software program to use for mastering, try Izotope Ozone. It's an amazing program with lots of flexibility. To make everything sound fluid, if you're doing it all at home, my advice would be to record and sample everything at the same levels. It seems obvious, but that's a big mistake some people make.

But if you're really serious about putting out your own album, I would do like Copenhagen and take your stuff to a studio. This way everything will get done properly. Record all your stuff at home, then take all your tracks to the studio to get the engineer to lay them down there.

Oh yeah, don't know the quality of the function, but if you have made sure each track is mixed properly, then Nero has an option that allows you to normalize the whole CD so that each track should match each other in volume....but as mentioned, I don't know the quality of the function.

Yeah, I really should go to an engineer or some mixing company but as my name suggests I'm too damn broke. I'll check out that program though and the work on the whole normalizing thing.

Hey Dj welfare I'm working on an entier album myself I have this one artist I'm working with if you check out the show case thread you can hear two of the six songs we have completed(don't mind the mix on the songs they were quick mixes and will be done over) after it's complete I'm going to print up about 150 cd's and give them out(all amterial is copy written)going to have a cover and everything along with contact numbers for the both of us so if it falls in the right hands one of us will be contacted wether they like the beats or Rhymes we will both benifit .....my cousin has a studio so I don't really have to worry about everything coming out on the same level but you should go to a studio to master yours because the better the quality the better the attention....Good luck with what you're doing...I wish you the best...stick to it
