Alchemist: Beats, Weed, and Life

^Link to a pretty interesting video on Alchemist. A couple of thoughts:

1. I think smoking weed is pretty much a prerequisite these days for producers. (i.e. Alchemist, Madlib, Jay Dee, Just Blaze(hasnt been officially confirmed yet, but I think the name says it all, ect.)

2. Can someone shed some light on his setup because it looks to me like his turntables are hooked straight into the keyboard, and the keyboard runs straight into the speakers. And he was also saying something about not wanting to use a mixer and just going straight to the speakers with his shit.

alot of producers smoke weed but thats not to say u need to if u wanna be creative its just the lifestyle alot of producers have seems to incorporate alot of weed smoking, but it aint gonna make u a better producer.

nut yeah i like the fact alchemist has a bare bones setup, and that beat he flipped of that record was siick no doubt.

When I first started producing I used to think I had to have that blunt before working on a track, but almost always now I'm never blunted in the lab. Although I usually smoke a little during tracking with an artist cause they usually spark up. I would rather someone smoke then get all drunked up on beer and liquor, you really get sloppy then or at least in my case!
