if i have a Midi Keyboard Controller, and a turntable, and an Akai S-Series sampler, do i still need a sequencer?
do you record the melodies you play on the keyboard into the sampler? or is the sampler merely a "host" for the sounds?
cuz i'm kinda confused . .
can you record the loops/melodies into the sampler? or do they have to be recorded "through" the sampler into the external sequencer?

try to explain the whole process of makin a beat with a turntable, midi keyboard, an akai sampler, and a sequencer . .

any help is appreciated

the sampler has no internal sequencer, if you are talking S900-S950....you need a soft or hard sequencer to assign your midi channels and samples.....basically I worked with a s950 for awhile with a similiar setup, its definitely a nice machine, I used mine with the mpc2k or I would use the computer/Fruity loops/Cubase or LoGic <-----my favorite soft Sampler/sequencer......and assign the midi channels from the S9XX and create your sequences from software.....this also gives you the flexibility of tapping into the added sampling time and power, that the older S950 might lack like in terms of megaminutes of sample time....also if I were you I would use my turntables only to record the samples I want into my computer then chop them on the computer using something like Recycle or do it manually with cooledit or soundforge.....after you get your samples how you want it you can a map them out across your keyboard.....(USING LOGIC and the EXS sampler, to me it is the BEST soft sampler out there for this if you want to make beats like you would on an ASR10)

If you could find an ASQ10 (or a stand-alone sequencer) all you would need is a MIDI controller and a sampler and your all set.

The ASQ10 IS a solid sequencer...almost legendary on the low. It's on sonicstate.com now.
