No, akai only sold a department of akai, pro audio because it doesn't sell as good compared to the rest of the company. There still big in consumer electronics.

I dont think they'll stop developing the MPC's, Alesis has anounced some exciting new products coming soon. I scoped out their new product catalog and it looks nice, they're coming with Fully Digital workstation to compete with the phantoms, motif's, tritons, oasis and god knows what more. It features HD recording, 8 pristine Inputs for realtime recording, sampling (playback, recording editing), analogue synthesis, frequency modeling, physical modeling. Last but not least some high quality fx( tc electronics....).

They're also coming out with some new midi controllers and they look sharp too, Photon49 I believe was the model.

In all the newcatalog looked quite sharp...

Yeah, this is causing a big traffic jam at Akai. They are having trouble getting certain parts for different equipment because they have changed to different manufacturers of resistors and transistors etc. I was just recently a victim of this power move. I sent my MPC2000XL in for a simple repair (the right output stopped working) on 11 January 05. I just got it back on 22 July 05! All because of the changes that are happening at Akai! The guy at Akai was calling me personally every week to appologize and give me updates on what was going on with my MPC. Needless to say I was pissed off the whole time! The only good thing about that situation is that I had to learn how to use Reason in order to make beats. I actually like Reason; but I LOVE MY MPC!! LOL!
