yeah i've done it a few times. i tried a few different kinds and don't get me wrong, they get you FUCKED up. but for the most part you don't hallucinate with it anymore. there's only a few brands out of hundreds that still use wormwood, and i think its illegal to use in all but like two or three countries in europe. i know portugal is one of em and i heard the czech republic was too, but i don't think that's true.

Yea, the kind I ordered has thujone in it (the chemical from the wormwood). They reviewed it in Maxim Magazine and didn't hallucinate, but they said everything looked like CGI. I don't want to hallucinate, but i wouldnt mind seeing some crazy colors.

Dont believe anything Tim Roth tells ya, besides, Gogh was suffering from Epileptic seizures which combined with alcohol creates a subtile schizophrenia, just like the Liar movie.

This stuff is brewed from Alsem ( a herb ) and is also considered an afrodisiac, the least bit gets you horny wether man or woman takes it, which can make it highly addictive as it proved in the last centurty to devastate many poets and romantic fanatics ( heheeh ). Now they dont sell the usuall Absinthe anymore since it's semi illegal when having the tradional amount of Alsem so chances are that when you buy it, it should be "safe" to consume. I've had some from Spain, Portugal and East-European countries, but never drank to much of it considering the fact that I am mostly stoned which killz a lot of the fx, alike mushrooms.

It a good trip, but not alike "Liar", you need to be a ingenius rich epileptic to have that much fun ( and get away with it ).

Hey, I've drank multiple different kinds of Absinthe (and Absinte, the fake American kind without wormwood.) The story is this: Absinthe is legal to posses in the US but not legal to sell. So, if you order it from England or the Czech Republic, you can get the real shit; since, it was never actually outlawed in those places, just fell out of popularity. There is really kind of a conspiracy around absinthe. Originally invented by a doctor as a sort of medicine. It became popular with artists, intellectuals, and the bourgeois, after Europe experienced a few years of really bad wine production, due to a drought or something. It was really rather expensive and most people couldn't afford it. But it bacame really popular among everybody pretty much. So, people started producing basically bathtub Absinthe. It was like a lot of the prohibition era Gin and was produced in stills with not very good materials. Think Crank, it was produced using houshold chemicals and things of that sort. Yes, some people did go crazy from it, but it is now believed that this was mostly do to the poor production quality. Most people were actually probably getting alcohol poisoning which can happen very easily if hard liquour is not manufactured correctly. Not only this, but once the wine industry started to come back, Absinthe was hurting their sales. So, they lobbied politicians and influenced newspapers to blow the effects out of proportion. For instance, a man murdered his wife when drunk. The newspapers blamed it on Absinthe because he had drank some Absinthe, but he had also drank whiskey, rum, and other drinks as well. Absinthe was eventually made illegal in most of Europe. Today's absinthe contains way less Wormwood than the old stuff did. Since that is the chemical that supposedly induces hullicination, it is real hard to get enough of it out of modern Absinthe, especially because,in my opinion, Absinthe taste horribly disgusting. It is a liquorice flavor and has a really high alcohol content. You can make your own because you can buy wormwwod itself in some healthfood stores, but I have never done this. I have friends that have had good experiences with this method. Wormwood supposedly has a similar chemical makeup to THC. My understanding is that is is also slightly an upper and the hallucinations are more due to the fact that you are really drunk but lucid, instead of the normal grogginess associated with alcohol. I have experienced a similar feeling when drinking Absinthe. Although it is very interesting for the way it influenced the likes of people like Van Gogh, Hemingway and Salvador Dali, I don't think modern Absinthe is worth the money. If you order it from overseas it is pretty expensive and the wormwood content isn't very high. As, I mentioned before, it is disgusting as well. As far as Van Gogh goes, it is my understanding that he used a lot of Absinthe as well as other things, but the ear incident actually occured after he had been drinking Turpentine, which he supposedly did when he didn't have anything else to fuck him up. Turpentine was also one of the things supposedly used in the "bathtub" Absinthe. Well, if you are interested in what many amazing artists, authors, and musicians experienced; it may be worth a try. But I'd say don't worry about it, it isn't all that.

I have used many methods. The traditional methods of pouring over a sugar cube, igniting sugar cube, or just dropping in the sugar cube with some water. As I said, the taste isn't very good; so, unlike a Scotch and water, it doesn't taste very good without a mixer. I've tried mixing it with a whole lot of stuff, Orange Juice, Cranberry, Coke, etc., but nothing seems to cover the taste. To me it is so gross that it really isn't worth drinking, especially since it is not that much different nowdays than just getting drunk normally. It tastes like Black Liquorice, which I can't stand; so, others might not mind it as much.

On a side note, in the movie "From Hell" with Jonny Depp. He can be seen preparing Absinthe the traditional way but he puts drops from a medicine bottle on the sugar first. My understanding is that it is supposed to be Laudunum, which is just another derivative of the poppy plant. This one is made by slicing the pod of the poppy before it opens up and a sort of resin will leak out and harden. I guess that is Laudunum. As you all probably know, the Poppy is famous for giving us so many drugs such as Morphine, Opium and Heroin as well. Laudunum just seems a little less scary because it isn't all processed, but I don't usually just see poppy's growing around. Oh well...

yeah that shit can be nasty. the first time i did it i mixed a whole glass up of water and absinthe, but it was too nasty to sip on, so i just downed the whole thing. almost came right back up too, but i managed to keep it down. different kinds got different flavors too. i've had ones that taste like licorish, which i thought was NASTY, and ones that taste kinda like bananas. that shit wasn't too bad tho. its pretty dope lighting the sugar on fire too. i got mad pictures of our drunk asses doin that in the dark last year

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan, listen. First of all, my tolerance to alcohol is extremely high. By the 2nd glass i was suprisingly buzzed. But, I didn't see anything or feel anything different. And then the shit that really killed my chances of feeling anything at all was getting harassed by a couple of rookie cops from old bridge for an hour. Fuckin bitch ass pigs. They couldn't find shit on me and my nigga, so they gave me a ticket for littering with a required court appearance. What the fuck is that?!!!
