I was just wondering... that do you use the showcase for? I'm not saying it's useless (au contraire!) I'm just wondering. Do you use it:

-So people can listen to what you do?
-To see if people like your tracks?
-To have comments on your tracks (so you can make improvements)
-To be known
-So some big shot recording company listens to your tracks and signs you up
-"any other reason"

I'm just wondering, cuz, a lot of times, I see comments about the reviews people give, and it seems like some people really dont like to get bad reviews or get offended by the way people make them... (I'm REALLY not pointing anyone, REALLY... if you feel pointed, you got issues, REALLY)

Personnaly, I dont really put up my best beats on the showcase. To me it's an opportunity to improve the beats I wanna work on, and sometimes, it's to see if I'm the only one liking a track I did...

What about yall?

Mike basically said it perfectly. LOL....I kno its been days since i last posted in that bitch, but schools out so i plan to again soon. :)

As far as 'dislikes', or 'negative' comments - Im 100% ok with any comment someone can dish up about my music. I jus want feedback when i post personally. U cant please everyone, so i dont try. I do on the other hand like to see the span/spectrum of how far my music reaches to different listeners, and the showcase use to enable that for me.

i do it to find out if people are feelin my style, and if not, what they feel is wrong with it.

Yeah, I'd like to do that tot... I guess most of us have beats that we feel, with a different feel than the "commercial" one... I have a couple (actually most of my beat are not "main stream" at all.

I dont really review/post that much, cuz I dont have the net yet (money....) But I wonder if, when reviewing, people have the main stream sound in mind or overall dopeness, like Fade says...

dnt underestimate the showcase, for experienced people yea its just a chance to get somefeedback and show what they have done but when i woz starting out about 9 months ago it woz fucking invaluable advice, i used to try and post every week so people could see how i woz progressing ! I posted my first beat in there and got constructive feedback and each week when i posted something new people would give honest advice and i feel that had a big part to play in me advancing pretty quickly with my skills ! Back then people like classic, cold truth, trciky spins, hectic, nomics etc used to post pretty much all the time too, and i always valued the advice they gave so imo its a very good thing to have on the site !
I don't post as much now but i will now and then and i always try and check other peoples beats if i can ! I don't think its as good as it woz but then i don't rely on it as much as i used to so it may just be that, a lot of people seem to just post and wait for feedback this week i posted something up pretty late but only got one feedback, thanks to the person who has given me feedback ive been well busy the last few days i blew up my car and had to take the engine out tonight but i will check your beat and give you a PM asap !
Thats mvho anyway !

the thing about this site is there ARE lots of people who will help you out in the showcase or woteva you just have to be humble drop the attitude and the front and get your thinking cap on lolat the end of the day you have to be able to take all criticism and helpers given to you whether you like or not kinda swallow your pride sumtimes and admit you suck and go work at it lol,get ready to absorb the knowledge coz a lot is dropped around here and you'll be surprised what you learned !

I feel you on that, Mark. I improved quite a lot since I'm here. From the critics/comments and from hearing other styles and types of beats... I really think that the showcase is one of the most important part of the site (well, to me it is)...
that's why I'm wondering what people think of it... and what do they use it for...

it depends....

when i first got on here, i used it a lot for feedback. i would get remarks like, "beef up that kick a little bit", "that guitar could use a slight delay", so i went to work and learned a lot of things.

then, somewhere, feedback turned into things like, "not really feelin this, but hey keep doing you"... which doesnt do anything. i personally learned how to provide feedback for tracks i didnt even like, from a mixing and conceptual standpoint..... but i saw that actual feedback started to turn a little bit into a hot/not discussion.

so now i give tracks to a few people (classic, merc, deuce, guevara, wings) who basically helped me get better by leapes and bounds.

the thing is, putting pride to the side and sometimes changing things that you may hold on to for dear life. i have had beats take a completely new direction after showing it to classic- for the better.

honestly if people (and i have seen it myself) get pissed because they dont like the feedback they get, then they need to not ask for it, and have fun being meidocre.

cold, i know what you mean, cuz i've done that myself. but i mean, sometimes there is nothing else to say. there's nothing wrong with the beat, but it's just not your vibe. or maybe there's just something you can't place. yknow? sometimes a beat just doesn't appeal to me, but i dunno why.

I wish we could get someone here who didn't give a shit (or who DID gave a shit) enough to say "That song is shit... here is why"[not to say that people don't do that.... It's just that people here are too nice. Nice is good... but brutal honesty gives a reality to the situation that 60% Niceness and 40% honesty doesn't. Cold Truth's name is a prime example of that... the jerk lives up to his name, and I respect him immensely for that. Fucking meaniepoo shit head mean jerk person (BIG UP ACEBEATS!!!)].

Although music is subjective, and it's hard to give/get constructive criticism on something based so much on opinion. I think maybe people should comment on the originality aspect a little more... If a song sounds bitten, let he/she/it/you/me know that. "BIG UPS" to Shonstizzy and PG13 for honesty in that area.

{sidenote}I need to visit the showcase more often. I am guilty of neglecting that area recently, and I apologize. feel free to blaze the shit out of me.... I'm willing to take some abuse for a minute at the sake of getting everyone here comfortable with being more honest and less nice. I'm guilty of that too... I can't deny it.

Oh, Truth... I was playing... I KEEEED I KEEEEEED!!!

i just like to get reactions. i'm not looking for critiques. i just like to know how the music affects people

from my experiance, good technical feedback is few and far between. but the showcase is still good for the reaction.

i havnt posted in ages though.....mainly cos i dont like posting up unfinished beats and i am too paranoid to call a beat finished.

i also check in there every now and hten just to see how the standard is going.

i think ill post some shit up soon cos i got some new shit in the works.
