Ableton and Reason

Ok, so I recently got both programs to see which one I like, I dont understand Reason at all (trying to learn) but Ableton I am catching onto pretty quick. So far I like Ableton the best of all the programs I have used (course I am sure I will change my mind once I know how to use Reason efficently). The thing is... it seems like it could be a waste of time learning Ableton if Reason is gonna be able to do more for me in the long run, but I guess it wouldnt hurt to learn both programs too. I also dont want to know like 4 or 5 different programs and have a bunch of different features I need from other programs, cool thing about ableton you can integrate it with Reason and alot of other programs, and pretty much just load a project you made in another program into Ableton Live... I dunno though it seems like Ableton has just about all the features I really want, Fruity Loops like Stone Age compared to Ableton and its features, so I doubt ill be going back to that (I could rant on what has been pissing me off in Fruity Loops lately, but ill save that for another time :p) but what do you guys recomend I do?

If youre more confortable with Ableton use Ableton but also what you cuodl do is make youre beats on ableton learn of it more and everyday make sure to dedicate yourself 30 minutes to reaosns just to learn it

so today I started watching the Ableton Tutorial DVD... teaches you everything, and is completely in depth about every function within ableton, and wow I can do so much more than what I could with Fruity Loops. I can finally screw around with the music in real time, while its playing and add what I need, not to mention I am begining to understand how to DJ with it too. All in all I love it, one thing it doesnt have is mp3 file exporting (whcih doesnt take much to take a wmv file and convert it but still) no biggie. the step sequencer is soooo far beyond FL its funny, and the program just looks so much better than it too, anyway enough of my babbling.

I like Abelton ,too. It 's so similar to ACID. And it has some great features. I really like the editing section and how you can flip from arranger to mix view.

When you finished learning how to mix/route/sequence in ableton - just catch a tutorial on youtube about Rewiring.

Basically this will allow you to use all the sounds and synths of reason inside of ableton.

THe best of all worlds, really, since u can then use VSTs at the same time (within ableton).

Alot of pros use this combination, but in a logic/pro tools environment.

I personally prefer ableton as well, and do this with reason.

However, I still faithfull use FL as well - in reference to your comment, i make just as good if not better beats in it.

If you master FL, you can do anything these programs can...honestly.

FL 7 does everything ableton does, actually. Its time stretch and such is alot better, but i think ableton wins in its rewire department. And thats the major reason i use..ableton over FL when i do.
