A Sound Library

I'm in the process now of putting together a load of drum sounds that I've got on my computer.

Any of you peeps out there got any tips on how to organize a sound library? Is there a better way of naming the sounds that i've got?

When you've got a drum loop, do you chop it into the individual drum hits and save the sounds seperately or is it better just to save the loop as it is?

I cut it up into pieces, unless its like a classic loop thats supposed to be the way it is (ex: Impeach The President=Nas-I Can, Chris Rock-Basketball Jones, etc./ Hater= Roc Raida-Hater Breaks). But if its not a classic loop, i cut out the pieces and put them into there own folders.

First make a folder on your computer, and save all your kicks into it. You can make another folder inside the 'Kicks' folder like: Rock Kicks, Techno Bumps, Gritty Kicks, etc. to how you think they sound. Then do one for snares. Add the sub-folders. Do one for hats. Shakers. Crashes. sfx, etc.

Buy an External HardDrive and hook it up to your computer, save them all to it and put the HardDrive where it wont be hit or touvched by any magnetic force.

Somedays, you should go through the folders again and organize them into the subfolders again, and add new sounds when you get some.
Using the sub-folders will probly help you organize your library a lot.

One thing that i do sometimes, is go through a bunch of records and just record the section of the record that i want and save it. Dont chop it up yet, just save a bunch of them. Then some rainy day you can go back and chop 'em up. Then you save them to your hardDrive in another folder. Just keep building your library, you can never have too many sounds.
