A Producers Worst Nightmare...

Well fellas, for the SECOND TIME my computer has crashed and I've lost all my beats AGAIN. The first time I had about 150, this time I had like 250... f*ckin sucks. Whenever I try burning the .flp files to cd,(which are my beats in Fruity Loops format,) it doesn't work. I litterally asked god why he would do this again... countless nights and days of hard work all lost in the blink of an eye. You guys must've had this problem before...

I kinda feel like it's making my skills improve, because now I'll start a whole new series of beats that will be the littlest bit more complex and thought out than the last. Everytime this has happened, I usually don't repair my computer for a good 2-3 weeks, than I go back to making beats every single day. I usually notice a change too, like a slight elevation in the sound and variety of melodies.

Feel bad for me! What can I do to prevent this? The first time my hard drive just fried... this time I tried installing a router into my tower and when I start up windows, my icons dont appear, (or the start menu.) One error pops up, than that's it. Any clue??

No clue man, I feel ya pain though, my dj got the same problem, lost everything....

You should zip em from FL and make backups more often, just make backups end of every week. you can also look into scsi hd's, I find them a lot more trustworthy.

yea man you have to start backing up your stuff. as for the problem, could be anything. sorry not much help. i fried my hard drive before too.
lost everything. when i bought my new drive i bought an extra internal and a scsi drive for back up.

I would call my local computer store and ask them if they know what the problem could be and if they can fix it...or buy a new pc...I would jump off a roof if my pc crashed for good.

Those external firewire drives are nice two you could use that to save all your important music files too. Another thing you could do is partition your harddrive with two partitions
C:\(System Partition-Operation System)
D:\(Applications & Music Data)

If you come home one day and your computer doesn't boot up, don't worry you've separated all your important data onto another partition even if its the same drive, but you will have to fix the Operatint System or reinstall it but only on C, you don't have to touch D at all. Or like the others said just make frequent backups to some other medium.

yeah and make an E:\ for all your temporary folders. They make your pc go nuts due heavy internetting causing a lot of datatraffic. Clusters being grabbed and then spread over the drive when files become obsolete. Thus making the software on the drive instable (think of swapfiles etc ).

Not to be rude but i cant really feel sorry for you since you said this is the second time it has happen. Kind of like f-cking a girl and catchy crabs then f-cking the same girl and catching something else. It should be a major rule to never store you music on the system drive because of that very fact that has not happen to you once but twice. Hell i have a 250 gb external firewire harddrive and a external dvd burner to back up what ever is on my harddrive 2 times.

IFELL YA PAIN MAN it hasn't happened to me wit my beats( knock on wood) but it one I've been tryna geta hold of my friend who is a ill mc to do some freestyles for a mixtape I was doing.
After 3 months I finaly got in touch wit him.
He brought thru 2 partnes and they spit the illest rhymes you ever heard.
Long story short right after we recorded it I took they pic wit my digital cam then pluged my cam in the pc to load the pic. Well the cam made my comp crash and I didn't save the file. I lost the file all 60 minutes. Of the illest freestyles you never gonna be able to hear.

I learned my lesson now I save the file/project b4 I even lay a beat down. And hit save throught the whole process.

And my 120 gig external back up hard drive should be comin soon.

Oh and architect how do you partition a hard drive?

My best solution is an external hard drive for storing you fruityfiles only - its a whole lot better than burning to cds (they can get scratched or lost over time) and they're made durable - leave that internet dowloading alone, its a lot of trouble to ya system, but for a safety get system mechanic pro, to disinfect your system of parasites and it comes with firewall to prevent such further crap to interrupt your system - and i am pretty well convinced that your system specifications are pretty high, thats the worse thing about newer systems everythings faster and faster means more heat, a lot more heat, so its wise not to run that baby all day - give her some rest quite often or ask your computer guy to mod it with one of those techno gadgets that gamers use that super cool your system (if ya got tha moola to spend) other than and this goes for every fruityloops user - Its not wise to save to .flp cuz if you loose the sounds - the .flp is rendered useless - its always best to save it a .zip loop file...

LoL, both times my computer has crashed, it's been me turning on my tower and windows just not starting. The first time I fried my hard drive and there was no hope for me recovering beats in that situation. *THIS TIME, I pulled out the router I was trying to install and windows started up again, only it was all fucked up and glitchy. *WHEN I GO TO appearance to change my screen resolution size, my computer goes black... (I've seen this happen before though on a friends computer.) Maybe one of you know what this problem is?? Like I said, I click "appearance" to change my screen resolution and the whole shit just goes black. My computer's sick lol. BUT, atleast I managed to put like 30 of my best beats from this time around, (hard drive 2 lol,) so I'm atleast not mad at god anymore... lol.
