Couple of questions for y'all.

1) Do any of you consistently build your own patches in instrument vsts as opposed to using the presets?

I always use the presets and do any tweaking in the mix thru dynamic processing.

2) Can y'all truly tell a totally in the box produced beat from a beat produced or mixed on hardware?

There are a bunch of saturation plug ins, as well as emulations of compressors and eq.

#1 YES, an producer is only as good as the sounds they CREATE or Sample. I try and NEVER use stock stuff EVER. Thats one of the reasons, Reason is such an good environment for me personally.

#2 No, no one can. Its been proven over and over and over. Even the "golden ears" cant tell. Its all about workflow and I prefer an 100% in the box workflow.

yep.. i usually start with the preset, then try to make it my own.. the same with samples.. i never want someone to tell me, "yo, this sounds like so and so's beat" or something like that.. and even tho u try and make it sound different, you will always get a few people.. lol

1) Yes, one of the funnest parts of production is sound design and creating your own sounds with your synths. It gives you an edge over others in defining your sound.

2) For the average listener, they have no clue. For people who produce for a living, hell yeah. You can probably even name the preset that was used for the snare or the same generic trap-beat that every motherfucker is producing on the web.

1.) i have to, some of my stuff doesnt have a memory to store presets/patches lol

2.) depends, not always but some emulations are still crappy so some hardware geeks will be able to tell.
