26 Horn tracks...WTF yo?!

Yeah.....

Had a song recorded from this artist who's being pushed by Sony... We were in the studio and they wanted to add some spanish flavor to the record.... Needless to say the people wanted horns all over this record...

Had a trombone and a trumpet player come in and play.... Wow... 26 horn tracks... It was cool having some people come in and play... But at the end....the engineer had to mix down 26 horn tracks....

Everything was sounding good...until the mix portion..... We then noticed that there were little mistakes here and there with both players... and had to melodyne them (beast). Had the big dog in there sitting through the mixing process... Impatient as hell......expected the mix to be done in an hour..lmao..


Basically what I posted this was because I wanted to know if any one here has had the blessing of working with other musicians in the studio.

yea I have worked with loads of other musicians, I love it! Especially other guitar players.

horns are a pain in my balls bro! I got this awesome joint ive been sitting on for two years that I had a couple guys lay down flugal (spelling?) horns, french horn, trumpet, trombone, and i think a muted trumpet for...every time I pull the session up Iook at the 18 horn tracks and work on something else...Its sucks too cause the track is really cool...its called "Lets have breakfast"...breakfast meaning sex of course.

I love working with musicians cause they love to play so you just lay down some drums and let em go and you have an instant royalty free sample library...I also HATE working with musicians when your trying to make some straight hip hop shit cause they have a very difficult time coping with the simplicity of hip hop beats...

Word..it was very fun....

The trumpet player didn't have the (I have no idea what it's called) mute piece for his trumpet....

In the booth there is a dark knight monty python doll...(the legs and arms just break off, funny shit) and started using that to try to give it that muted sound....actually came up with a dope sound.... But it was funny as hell (btw, that's me in the reflection). lol.

Ive worked with a sax player and it was easy as hell, gtr players and keyboardists.

Well... it wasn't 26 different parts.... they were stacked, but you still have to mix each...

And it may sound like overkill..... but it really wasn't.....

Thats why I love Melodyne. Sometimes I even use it to rewrite melodies or chord progressions.

Been there before session like that drove me nuts. I remember I did a some vocals stax that were like... 20-30 tracks lady's voice amazing. We were trying to get all the little nuances was a lot work
