    Beat representin?

The industry is so full of middle men these days, it's how a lot of people get put into the game but you'd be surprised how many big name producers have assistants/go-fers that hit up websites and get beat CDs etc. and submit them in exchange for a small percentage of that upfront $$$$. This...

Live Shows! How to get 'em and How to keep 'em

That's exactly what you say if you DON'T want to get booked. If you don't know the promoter personally (which normally is the case for a lot of up/comers, ) then submit a press kit and follow up on your conversations. Something along the lines of: "I'm looking to perform at 360 next month...

Sex as a valid path to enlightenment

Yeah, in a lot of countries (especially Asian ones), people in general are a lot more liberal in their approach towards sex and all that comes with it. During my international travels, I have come across a lot of ladies that changed my way of thinking and definitely taught me a few tricks in the...

Tips on actually producing an individual

Some tips I would include for producing/recording individuals is: Set the tone from the moment they walk in the door that your time is valuable and we're all here to WORK. Blunt rollers, crate carriers, the girl who gave you a ride, and other entourage have nooooo input and "bet not"...

    My first MAJOR production credit!!

It's funny, because of the people you're working with, the average up-and-coming producer thinks you've already "made it", but I know that your career is just beginning and you were very fortunate to start off getting your foot in the right door. Hustle those beats my man, and good luck with the...

    Record Label

If you really wanna do it "for real, for real" the best thing to do is to intern for a major label to start off. I could give you a looong list of great executives in this business who started off as interns and carrying crates for the all-time greats. Starting a label is easy, running and...

Common Business Mistakes of Up-and-Coming Artists/Labels

Yeah, if you're answering your phone, it gives you an edge to know who you're talking to when their number pops up, you don't need a Blackberry or Sidekick to be organized, you just gotta put in that little bit of work to get it done!

    Been offered a deal.....

<QUOTE>What do you think?? dodgy? If somebody offers you a legitamite "deal", most legit companies would fly you out there for a couple days and have you work/build with the artists. Now, if its a situation where they want the track and the rights for cash (which is verrry common...

Common Business Mistakes of Up-and-Coming Artists/Labels

I don't write the articles as much because I'm very accessible via PM. Even though I'm craaazy busy, I made a promise to myself a while back to never use "I'm busy" as an excuse not to get things done, and since BUFB is one of those things I wanted to do, I'll keep it going, because a few...

    Reading during the summer

Pick up a book called: "The Alchemist" by Paulo Cuelho. It's one of those books that uses a lotta symbolism that you can apply in your own life. If that book doesn't inspire you, then nothing else will.

Advice for those that just want to give up.

My take on it is that if you want to give up, then that may mean its time for you to fall back for a while and maybe get some balance in your life. Some producers spend hours and hours in front of a cpu screen and haven't been outside since their junior year of high school when they got those...

top 3 mc's u would like to have on your beats

Canibus, Ras Kass, Nas They aren't my top 3 of all time, but they are probably the most criticized for their beat selection in hip hop history. At least if I gave them some heat, then people would say "they are back" and it would get me some more production opportunities.

Myspace Contacts- Can they be legitimate?

Myspace is definitely over-saturated with members, but it has changed the entire way music is produced and marketed so it can't be over-rated. Having a strong work ethic is always good, but don't under-estimate what that site can do if you link up with the right people.
