2008 One Stop Shop Producer Conference

The 1st quarter of each year is the time when the team and I outline event attendance and "open the travel budget" 2009 is the year of Film and Technology for me, so One Stop Shop Producer Conference fits right in under the film category. I don't look at making beats as something to do for...

Anyone going to D.C. for the inauguration?

I'll be doing a bunch of events during the Inauguration. I'll be working as an affiliate for a bunch of traditional news stations throughout the country that can't make it here for whatever reason. I got invited to a formal ball hosted by some NFL players in DC. I'll have the suit on for...

how long do yall take to make a beat??

Most of those vids are super edited and don't really cover the creative process, it just covers what it takes to actually put together the beat. There are many producers that a signature sound and can make beats in 20 minutes, its different for everybody.

Have ANY of you solicited a manager or agent? What are your thoughts? I'm curious.

You're absolutely right G.O.D. and this is a good thread/discussion overall. In my discussions with a lot of managers lately, "presenting the hook" in press packaging is becoming more and more effective, to the point where I've seen talent shows where established hip-hop/R&B managers were...

Shadeed Interview with Days of Hip-Hop Tv (Video Clip)

    Digital Distribution Deals

To be honest, it depends on what type of rapper (content-wise) that you are. Rappers that target "the streets" or "the hood" would do better with a physical copy at the shows. I wouldn't advise Gucci Mane, Yo Gotti, or even Bump J to go with a download card (for example) as a "just as good"...

    Digital Distribution Deals

Disclaimer: I'm posting strictly from the underground/unsigned/independent perspective. There's a different approach from a major label perspective which others members from the Illmuzik community can add in and provide. Bex, you coulda called me directly on this one, you, of all people...

    Interview with Donny Goines

NYC's own Donny Goines on the hot seat. His rise to notoriety as an artist was due to his non-stop promo using the internet to back the work he put in the studio. Anytime Dame Grease steps up and decides to Executive Produce your debut album, you might be on the right track. This is Part I.

    I need a new name.

Call me crazy but just use your MMA name Ron 'Vice Grip' Johnson as your beat making name. It'll make you unique, and there's a whole story behind it because you're some MMA dude. I don't know any other MMA dudes actually active in hip-hop and that association could open you up to some...

    Are you a gadget freak?

You don't need a phone at all. With that being said, once you start getting into PDAs and smartphones, its the end of the road because once you lose or damage that phone its gonna be tough to "function" without it.

    Getting Your Beats in Movies

From what I see from my own personal examples in tv and film and in working w/ different examples I've come across, the "hardest" part for a lot of hip-hop guys is learning the rules and the ropes of a different industry and then expanding their sound and talent to provide music for various...

    Getting Your Beats in Movies

I'm curious to know why or at least gain feedback on why the majority of hip-hop beatmakers dont' go full-speed at the film and television industry. There's a lot of producers trying to do mixtapes, and somehow get Young Jeezy and T.I. on a track, but in all my travels this year I haven't met...

    Who are these people?

I don't think it's a case of "We're gonna be Illmuzik.com" I think its an issue of spelling the word music in a hip-hop fashion. Choosing a domain name is very tricky business, you're an experienced web developer so you THINK about these things, not everybody does.

That's right, the sign is Hook em Horns (Texas University Longhorns). It's a way of life down in TX, thought it was strange until I started going to South by Southwest and saw it firsthand.
