I think it should only matter in themed battles. The way y'all are talkin no theme battles should be trap type beats, which is a theme. No theme battles should be just that. They should just be judged on dopeness, mixing, layout, ect.

You're 100% right..

I think one point they're making, is that it can sometimes be hard to choose in a no themed battle. When there is really no criteria/requirements and you have multiple tracks that are dope w/ a good mix, picking the better beat can come down to personal preference. But that the beauty of hip-hop there is no one sound.

True... with no theme the contestants have the opportunity to enter any type of beat they want, but it is a battle... and my point of view is, if youre trying to win you should come with the the hardest most bangin beat you have... That doesn't mean it has to be a trap beat just something with more energy and excitement...

The only reason I'm saying this is b/c I entered a no theme battle a while back, and I used a smooth slow beat... The feedback I got from @Fade was this: "@crog85 - Very smooth but also very slow. That's good but I wouldn't use this for a battle. Everything sounds great, just since it's slow it's missing some excitement."

Ever since then I won't enter a smooth chill beat, unless its the theme...

I just cant agree with that. I luv all types of beats so, I don't think a beat has to be "hard" or "fast paced" to hold the listeners attention. It just has to be a dope beat, something u can hear words/lyrics to. It has to be something people wanna hear again. Then again like was said, everybody likes what they like, but I just know if I was judging a no theme battle I would go by which beat is produced the best not which style I think they should be.

@NONONSENSEBEATS I agree, definitely when I listen to beats I think could a rapper be on this and what kind of song will it? Is it too plain with no changeups so it'll rely solely on the rapper to make something out of it or is the beat strong enough that it has a life of it's own and the rapper will be able to do even more with it because there's so much there to work with.

We all want rappers to want to be on our beats correct? So def that comes into play. In general rappers I've worked with like the bangers and it takes finding the right rapper for more laid back beats. If you're getting your beats to rappers who perform you already know they start the set with the heater beats/songs though obviously in a performances you can have more chill ones too, but song choice by rappers is definitely more towards the strong beats that hit you.

I agree with this but, I am sayin just cause a beat isn't super hard or what everybody thinks rappers want does not make it any less of a banger. Yes I would prefer to make smooth chill beats but, if I feel like whatever beat I make is a dope unique beat them i'll put it on here (probably why I haven't won yet lol) and if its a no theme I would like to think it would be judged that way.

We are judging the BEATS... Not what beats have the potential to sound good with a rapper. I can't speak for everyone hear but not everyone is making beats "for" rappers... I'm not.

Everyone is gonna have their on take on how they judge these battles... I look at these battles like a street fight. Everyone is fighting for the top spot. If you were in a street fight with no rules (no theme) and you could use whatever you wanted... Would you hit someone with a pillow, or would you hit someone with brass knuckles?

@hardboiled Would obviously use brass knuckles... How many battles has this dude won? and what kinda beats does he use?? Hmmm

I don't take it to heart by no means lol. I mean these are being judged by people at my skill level (some way better some way worse) but a dope beat is a dope beat. I am definitely not saying that I should've even placed. I wuouldn't even put me top five in this one. It has nothing to do with making the beat for a rapper/singer or whoever. i'm just saying that they need to be judged by the quality of the beat and not just because its the style of beat u think it should be. If all u wanna hear is hard type trap/whatever beats then u should b watching any and every new mainstream song out right now not be in a "producers fourm" where it should be about the quality of the beat not just that its heavy/hard and @crog85 bro u make hip hop beats...if u dont want to go anywhere or do anything with them then this is just a hobby to u...its way more than that to me homie.
