MIX And Master

I need to know how do I get my song ready to get mix and master down by a pro engineer. I am using reason3.0 to make my Tracks and Ableton Live 6 to Record Vocals.Therefore, my question is, when I Record each track one by one/ what is the next step to have my song ready to be mix and master. This my first time getting this done so go easy

if u one reason solo each track and export it dry (without any panning or effects compression,reverb,delay,eq, etc.) as a wave.same for ableton live.once u have tracked out all your tracks they ready for the pro engineer.

*edit* oh and make sure your solo tracks dont clip.

Therefore, do I export each solo track before I rewire reason to Ableton Live or do I export each solo track from reason then export my vocals from Ableton? Sorry, but I do not know what I am doing.

Another (?). I am going to get this done but I just wanted to get you people (ILLMUZIK) opinion about this mix and master thing. Like is it worth the money and time to get this done to my song because many people who heard my music said that its sounds good the way it is. (I am here to get on your nerves). Just Playing

Relic - I am recording at home but I am getting this engineer from Reflection sound studios off Central AVE to take care of the mix and mastering.

well it depends wot are you going to do with the song to be honest with the quality of plug-ins you can get at home today and the knowledge thats available on the internet theres no reason why you can't do a simple bit of mixing and mastering yourself if you just intend for you and your m8s to listen to the beat or if your just selling it to some local cat or woteva ! its not really worth the money unless your on a major scale and if you were your label would be giving you money for that stuff anyway !

hmmm i agree with you in that yes mastering is worth every penny, if your guna release your stuff ! if your guna pay a load of cash on mastering then throw the beat up for sale on myspace or sumthing your wasting your time and money !

and yes becoming a good engineer is a long road however with todays tools and the internet providing access to a lot of knowledge quickly theres no reason why you can't practice mixing your own beats and you should be able to do a pretty good job and get them sounding ok if there aint being released on a big scale ! if you do it yourself you'll also learn something and save money so its a win win, as a producer its a good idea to learn basic mixing stuff anyway !
if you've got money to burn then fair enuff but personally unless its on a bigger scale in which case like i said before then you will probably have some covering studio costs its not worth it !
i've got free 24hr access to an extremely well equipped studio with the full works for mixing but unless i'm planning to use a track for something i'll mix it at home as its overkill if its just guna play on soundclick or myspace !

I would Agree..

Especially about the part about it either being on a bigger scale or Soundclick/myspace status.

if you know the track is going to go somewhere then put in what you think your going to get out of it.

but if its for some medium publicity like myspace do it your self on your own there are tons of info about mixing. just Google it :)

Kontents- good call! Totally logical. I've been wondering some of these same things about mixing/mastering and that article from Tweak that you linked to was exactly what I needed to read. Good lookin'

hol on I just caught up reflections is the shit...I think eventually you can learn what they do over there especially thorugh this site ...but if you have someone else payin the reflections money then I say do it...They have everything you need right there...Cats dont know about reflections unless cats know about reflections...and beleive it or not they have done ALOT of world famous shit...

So... let me get this straight.

I have the song fully mixed in reason, reverb, delay, panned, compression, EQ, limiting, stereo imaging and all, bumpin just how i want it..

then i have to export each track DRY, and re-do all that shit in an external daw using VSTi or hardware effects??

If, for some reason, I wanted someone else to mix it, how would they know how i wanted it to generally sound.. if everything is dry and panned center, they'll just do what they think sounds right, which will prolly sound very good, but not my initially direction of the beat at all.

So if i wanna master it myself i can just export it with my effects and such on it, and then just do what i gotta do from there? Multiband compressor, EQ, Stereo Imaging, Limiting, (as i would turn these off in reason lol.)

The reason you want someone else to mix it is because they are probably better at it than you. lol but you probably are much better at making beats than they are. I really feel that either get it professionally mastered or not at all, home mastering jobs rarely are worth a crap.
