when you have payrolls in the 500 millions, you would want to play as many games as possible too. the yanks spent 250 on three players alone... Arod could support the whole state of Rhode Island financially...
If you're referring to these games being fixed I don't think so. One of my friends 1st cousin is married to Mike Cameron a professional baseball player. I once asked him and he said absolutely not! He said these guys are so competitive that no amount of money could get them to throw games as a team. He said you might be able to find and individual player that will cheat but the team as a whole "no way". I think the Yankee's are just mighty lucky they stole more than one game in Philly. The home team always has the advantage in sports due to fan support. When I played sports we always played much harder at home. Andy Petite is just a suspect pitcher nearing the end of his career. He doesn't have the stuff he once had. I would not be surprised if it went 7 games due to the fact that he's pitching the next game. Money plays a part in the players you get i.e the Yankee's being stacked but I can't see anybody today throwing games. For one with it being the age of twitter, facebook and things like that some idiot player would blog about it because they can't hold water!
OK, I can respect that but heres the thing...How does a team as stacked as the Panthers are extend Delhommes contract when their number 1 player on the entire team says he wants out if they dont get rid of him? Its not common for a player to speak against a teammate like that publically(Other than TOs whinning @$$)? This mofo hasnt even lost the starting position and almost avg. 2 ints per game!
How do the lakers allow the Celtics to win the Championship when the Lakers are a much better team? How did the undefeated Patriots lose the Superbowl to the Giants with a team that was 10x better?
As far as the players...I dont think its them personally because they dont control the game. The coaches and owners do. None of the above teams replaced the Coaches responsible for calling these games...not one.
These games (especially a series championship) generate millions of dollars per game. We are in a recession! Think about it. Im willing to bet if their was some statistic of games played back when we werent in a recession you'd find that they played less games and youd find that the teams involved were alot closer matched.
Look at the regular season, the top teams kick everybodys @$$ then go to the final game and lose? Im not buying it.

Speaking as a former athlete I can attest that it's simply not the case. When I played football there were times when on paper and stats we were suppose to smash teams but then got our ass handed to us. There were also times when we faced teams that were suppose to run up the score on us but we found away to kick there ass. Individual player stats can be very misleading in organized sports. You can have too many stars on a team and things just not mesh. Some players are built to carry a team. They shine when they're the main focus. You can really see that when a great high school player goes to a college team with many great players. Sometimes they fade to black and they leave you wondering "what the hell happen, they were so productive in high school". That's why I love sports it's really less predictable than you might think.
The wording in some of these athletes contracts makes it financial impossible to sit them. They damn near have to do something detrimental to the team in order to be benched or traded. Contracts have a lot to do with how many players are treated especially if you are signed as a starter.
Dac, what you say can happen I just very seriously doubt it does. We may get to a point when it's like that, just don't think it happens now. That type shit would leak out in a heart beat in this era of sports and it's really not worth losing your fans for money. A sport like baseball is so serious to fans that if that shit was known there would be riots in the streets!

nah....I won't....he's been bouncing from thread to thread pissin on anything in sight, sorta like my Rott has been doing since he turned 1. He even managed to destroy a thread he started that had some serious dialog going on. He's been a little off his rocker since he became a gran pops. It's to be expected.....it's one thing to become older by the number of years you've been on this earth...it's another to attain the title of gran something or another. Since it's girl there's a chance that in about 13 to 14 years from now he could become a Great grand dad.....he'll only be in his early 50's.......bummer! He just might off himself at that time.....

It's all good to hate the Yankees for buying their teams and whatnot... but we're all family here on Illmuzik, no need to start stuff like that.
As far as a salary cap goes... there's no way ANY private company could be told how it could appropriate it's employee's pay. Regardless of how much the govt likes to shove it's nose in baseball, they could never impose salary caps on employees of private corporations.. regardless of the industry.
I think the preservation of freedom and capitalism is more important than preventing a baseball team from being better than some would like them to be... but that's just my opinion.

Teams in big markets (Chicago, LA, even St. Louis and teams in Texas) can spend the money but do not know how to fill their seats....
Yankees market themselves very very well....people wear NY merchandise even if they are NOT Yankees fans....

We still pay for the outrageous ticket prices.....wanna make a change? Don't go to any games....don't buy their merchandise...don't watch the games on TV....Since people collectively cannot do that...the Yankees will continue to "buy" it's championships..
