Get the Mo you won't go wrong with it....I had the "Classic" Mo Board for almost 2 years and I miss it...the sounds are great.....but b4 I sold it I sampled all of the sounds off it so I have them for use....its better sounds than the mo phatt I had that too it was aight but too plastic sounding or synthetic...but to use the MPC it will be a good pair..

Has anybody looked into the EMU proteus 2500 ? Shit is underrated, the biggest and baddest module on the planet so far.

I for one wouldnt jump to quick on the hype machines as everybody is buying into these making them stand out less exceptional in music to be released. My personal point of view though, but I dont like to use presets that have such a potential that another 100.000 producers are using it aswell. Not very original is it.

How about a Varios ? A Kawai 5000 R ? A Korg Morpheus ? A Korg Wavestation A/D or S/R ? A Creamware Noah ? A mulogix slave32 ( hehe, yeah for real ).

There's like overkill on modules, the ones you mention are currently just the most common ones.

Just think about it.

Formant I owned the K5000 w about 3 years ago....the sounds are not what I would really consider for hip hop you can fashion them but the synthesis is sort of made for some trance or other genre even though there are a few decent sounds, I made some beats though but the sound has this certain signature, I like Emu but some of the modules have a certain organic sound which i don't like but most of the newer hot modules like the Motif are implementing more realistic samples that dont have that distinct Mark or sound...even the triton has this distinct sound which is ok but I like acoustic sounds with not a lot of fx on a module i like to add them myself but if you take the fx off and listen to the dry rom sounds they sound plastic...I dunno just me and I owned the MOphatt and the MP7...I liked them but soon got tired of the sound.....the best thing is to find your way to the guitar center and use your own ears.....I find even though I have the new Triton I still want to use samples for my drumz....I just dont like instantly effected drums even though they sound good.....if i were you Classic make some time and go to the Guitar Center in Rockville, demo these pieces....ask for Khary...tell him BiGD sent ya! he does amazing deals too man.

I'd say go wit the motif rack classic. I have played with it and the sounds are fuckin dope. Real acoustic sounding like Bigd said. I have a triton and I like it don't get me wrong, but i think i would have liked the motif better. The sounds are amazing to me. The flutes and strings especially!

Like Formant said, E-MU has a lot of products that are not necessarily given credit. I call it the "silver synth" hype factor. Everybody seems to want the latest silver painted synth! JK.

I'd go with the Motif if it was according the choices you've given.

Sincerely,

haha, class, you got my last setup! (i didnt have the mixer, unfortunately...)

it is the overall best module/keyboard i have owned. it is still a great piece, even with the fantom x's and motif es's and triton extreme's running rampant...

that solo violin sends chills up your spine, doesnt it? i miss my motif now more than ever....

money. i wanted to produce a better recoring, i wanted the ability to include acoustic instruments and vocals... and the circumstances were either get a $500 dollar recorder, or a pc for another $700 (when you add in software) so i figured i would think towards the future- i can always get another module (i am getting something in the next few months), so i sold the mpc and motif. but right now i have a computer setup that is very formidable in its own right (athlon 1.53, 768 RAM, cubase sxs, sapletank2 and a ton of akai discs, kontakt (for those giga libraries), waves gold bundle, spectrasonics stylus, yamaha csx midi controller) and my next step is a good mic and stand and a good pre-amp or mixer. then, i will look into another module... but i got a pretty good computer setup as it is.

but there are things that i dont have that my mpc and motif rack gave me... so, yeah, i do miss them both! in hindsight, i could have kept both and still wound up with my pc and software, but it would have been a lot harder. i highly recommend you build your studio around those two pieces, even if it takes longer. it will be WELL worth it. just ask big d.
