The recent material from Mos Def and Kweli has been... uh... well... quite a departure from what most of us have grown to love over the years.

i just got the new mos def ep and i have listened to the beautiful mixtape by talib kweli...

and both of these left a WHOLE LOT to be desired, and a lot of it was... dare i say it? WACK.

anyone else heard these? its not that its different, its that its just not any good. they will likely bring in some fresh, new, bet-mtv mainstream fans with the new material, but they are alienating a great deal of their older, loyal, fans who appreciated the realness of their material. i for one, have been left scratching my head, because these are not the same people who rocked "hater players".

anyone else hear the newer material? its impossible to not see the difference.

I have Blackstars Album and i would agree with u that Mos' and Kweli current albums are a depature from tha black star lp...i do like them though i kinda got what i have called a "flexible ear" i can listen to underground cats and like it ..then jump on mainstream i be feelin that also.....on a ending note i do prefer the earlier mos def and kweli

Yeah the Blackstar album was definitely classic they dropped dropped sp much knowlege lyricaly on that album and the production was on point. I think maybe part of the change in their style is due to the fact that they are on mainstream labels and Rawkus gave them more freedom. Their newer stuff definitely isn't the same though.

Both MC's were still hungry. Not saying that their not now, but with a new found celebrity in both individuals; Kweli as a psudo-mainstream artist now with his "Quality" success(I didn't like it though) and Mos with his acting (yeah, he's that good), I would say both are a bit distracted right now. In order for them to return to what we know as Blackstar, they would have to concentrate on the effort and nothing else. That and find Hi-Tek, where ever he is.....

not feeling the new kweli shit at all, i'd like to say it's just the beats not doing him justice, but he seems to have really changed up his rhyming style and i really aint feelin it.

i havent heard the new mos ep yet, i'll have to look out for it.

i think it has some stuff to do witi hi-tech, he was making some killer tracks, not trying to put down talib and mos by any means because they are sick lyrically, but the beats proabably got a little to do with it, no matter how good the lyrics are if the beat is wack, nobody wants to hear it, at least not me
