Hey all. I ended up purchasing the MOTIF ES6 and had a few questions.

Up until this point, I had been using a Yamaha PSR 520 arranger so I am new to the whole 'sequencing' scene.
The drum machine is a Roland R-8 MKII (Human Rhythm composer). I
Up until now, I have only been using it with my PSR 520 arranger. How should I use it with my MOTIF?

Should I use the drum machine's onboard sequencer to make the beats on it, or use the MOTIF's sequencer for beats?

Also in your opinion does the MOTIF have better drum kits sounds or the Roland R-8 MKII ?

1. store the 520 away get into the motif manual the sequencer is on par and saving sequences will be native to the motif.

2. The Motif drumkits are ok, I like samples much better.... couple of tips...make your own drumkits and boost the output of the program eq to around -18, or for that matter any program that you deem to sound too low thats the key on the MO to make the sounds maxed in volume or fullness.

3. join up on www.motifator.com to get help I have been a member up on there since around 2002, most of the people on there are knowledgeble and you will find answers to any, well just about any questions on the MO.

Thanks for the response. I am actually registered over there already. That website is one of the main reasons why I chose to go with the Motif to begin with (because of the good support).

I have already given the 520 to someone else, and I will not be using it.

My question was more about the Roland drum machine.

Thanks for the tips on the volume level, even though I dont really know what it means, I am sure when the time comes, I will take your advice and play around with the volume levels.

yeh man the Motif has got a phat sequencer, use that.

Big D, when EQin sampled drums in the Motif, do you do it via editing each key on a user drum kit or do you EQ the drum in pattern mode?

i dunno if u got a sampling expansion in that motif, but if u do, just sample yur favorite sounds off that beat machine and forget about it, thats whut i would do just to minimize the amount of things i have to hook up together. i doubt that drum machines sequencer is as sophisticated as the motifs so besides the sounds in it it,you dont really need it

Good advice. I had that r-8 back in the day and once I got an asr-10 i sampled all the sounds I needed from it. Plus the sequencer is mad ancient.

I really dont equ the drums in the Mo except if I need to on the track its on...I always program them on separate tracks so sometime I might add a lil bass to the kick ....but what i am talking about is the program for your drumkit that is mapped out for your drumsamples is by default at a low level, there is a program boost to EQ setting that you need to change that will make your drumkit much louder....
