Okay so I use Cubase and use alot of my sounds from sonic synth and a couple other VST's...I have a problem when I try to overlap instruments using the same notes....for instance with the current beat I'm working on I am using a clav and I wanted a synth layered behind it, but when I put the synth or any other instrument behind it, it mutes certian notes from the original..I've had this problem alot and I was wondering if this is just a setting I'm missing or if there is a way around it.........thanks..

Make the layered notes slightly off. You might want the layered instruments to play in a different octave to avoid clashing and mixing problems. I have found it helps, things tend to be less muddy and it adds to the variety of the beat. But what do I know ;)

I've tried different octaves and it still seems to do the same thing.....notes somehow get muted.....It will work if I use different vst's, like layer the second instrument in Proteus while the first one is in sonic synth, but when Its on the same vst it seems to happen alot...especially with basslines.......I don't know, I'll try it slightly off and see if that works, but theres gotta be another way.....

I never said playing in a different octave will fix that problem, I was just mentioning it. Thought it might help someone.

I thought when you said "you might want to play layered instruments in a higher octave to avoid clashing and mixing," that you were talking about the muting problem still...............

Yeah I meant clashing with the other instrument sonically (if thats the right word). I should have typed it in another paragraph. My fault, apologies.
