Video Editing Software for Mac

I need some advice on video editing software, I would like something that doesnt take a PHD to operate, Ive heard that Final Cut Pro is very complicated, the same for Adobe Premiere. I think those two are probably the best to use, but they have much steeper learning curves. My friend is currently using iMovie. Would it be wiser to stick with that till learning how to use one of the big 2.
