Has anyone been catching this stuff?

They have had some good stuff so far but they are missing a lot of stuff. I learned some sh*t I thought I should have known already but I noticed they are missing a lot of stuff. I never knew the first battle on wax was between Moe Dee and Busy Bee.

There were some names on some of the specials that I didn't see dropped like Tribe, Primo, etc. Maybe a whole two seconds on EPMD. Lots of stuff on Def Jam and NWA but they skimped out on some of the other stuff.

They had a special about raps biggest beefs and went into detail about Nas and Jay, 50 and Rule, but they never mentioned LL and Canibus, LL and Kool Moe Dee. They did get into Cube and NWA and credited Cube for dropping the first raw diss record when he produced No Vaseline.

I agree here with you, mainstream media will never be able to accurately report or detail it's history for an underground culture

I caught it this weekend......aside from the whole politics of VH-1..... I did enjoy the footage and interviews with the artists and legends alike.....I think it was worth watching and seeing the perspectives they had.... I dunno but there was a lot of Time given to Dre and the whole West Coast time period along with ice cube and easy E...we know there was a whole lot more to actual HIP HOP...not gangster rap evolving and being accepted as well...um a purely hip hop genre classification???? not to dis Dre but he was running around in tights in his G Funk band before getting his hands on an mpc or SP12 and working with MC's on the west coast while hip hop was actually thriving and alive in its purest artform on the East Coast....so even though he's well respected now and established as one of the greatest producers ever in Hip Hop he was a scholar to the artform in the beginning and built off of that......and what they were doing really wasn't billed as hip hop...but Gangster Rap...LOL

I only caught a little bit of it, but what i seen seemed pretty dope, i liked what they were saying about freestyling. They were talking about Supernat, Juice, and Craig G. It also had a dope freestyle from Blackthought, they were standing outside and ?uestlove was throwing out topics. I seen the very end of the Hip Hop Honors, from when Nas was paying tribute to 2pac, that was cool. Im pretty sure ill catch the whole show when they play the rerun like 50 times throughout the week....lol

Its obvious they cant cover everything but the main thing is that they finally gave Cool Herc & DJ Hollywood their props. Can you imagine driving around New York in a convertible with with some big ass speakers in the back seat.

Caught bits and pieces.....from what i saw - it looked good. I wanted to watch more but i had to bail to tha assembly line. I agree with both Guervara and Big D about tha opinions regarding tha politics behind airing shit about hiphop culture.

what i dont understand is how they plan on doing an annual hip hop honors...it wasnt even an awards show, more just honoring the greats....which is madd cool and a nice change from the norm, but how they gonna do it every year??

after like 2 years they're gonna go through all the hip hop greats, then by year 3 they gonna be honoring Chingy and J-Kwon with some bullshit lol
