I wish I knew more about music theory... tried to do it by myself, but it aint that easy... most websites that talk about music theory focus too much on theory and not to application.

I want to know more about chord progression and circle of fifths, and Im pretty sure it aint that hard, but the explanations are sometimes wierd and very theoric...

If you wanna good all around theory refernce book i suggest Tonal Harmony
By Sefan Kostka & Dorothy Payne.

THis book is the standard for second/3rd year music majors, its the book i learned from as well and its very well written. It does a good job of explaining things

The book does assume that you have an intermidate knowlege of music structure and notation. So dont cop it unless you ateast know the differnce between a major or minor scale, or know the major scale intervals etc....

The book does a great job of walking you threw the verious aspects of music theory from the fundamentals to advanced topics.It also discuesses the foundation and history of tonal music(which is what all western music is based on today,even hip hop)

I still use it as a refernce and i would recommend it to anybody who is serious about learning theory...
