But is it possible to put swing only on the hh? If so how?..
As I look at it and iv'e only had it like 4 days the swing slider effects the whole track correct..
Or is there a way to swing only 1 instrument...
That would be revolutionary me thinks, as every swing function I have seen effects the entire beat...

When I want to add swing/groove to say just hi-hats I hold CRTL down and select the hats in the piano roll then press ALT + Q and open up a groove template.

Hope that helps.

It's possible to create patterns with a single instrument in it, each with it's own degree of swing to it. You would then assemble these individual patterns into your tracks.

^ that must have some interesting even if its not actually usable effects..
As I delve deeper into FL Im gonna try that just to hear it, as even tho it would all be off bea,t still at the right gradiant of swing applied might at least have an interesting sound..

I started applying that way of thought from the way I make my dance compositions in FL Studio. That's how I assemble techno and electro tracks, but never did hip hop like that even though I used to do something similar with hip hop waaaaay back inna day.

I don't know how you guys make your drums, but I program everything using the piano roll. To get noticeable swing without using the dedicated swing function, manually place every note.

I think it'd be a good idea for us to post different examples of "swing" on soundclick and a description of how we did it. that'd probably be real helpful.

as i was sayin though, try manually placing each hihat (i even do the kicks and snares too). One thing i've noticed that really helps for the swing is pushing the hi's back so they hit behind the kick, not on top of it. it's hard to describe, but the sound is sick and you know it when you hear it.

Also try messing with the velocity, don't have all the hihats hit at the same level. Try having the hi's that hit on the 1 and 2 (basically every kick and snare on a straight kick snare pattern) hitting louder.

fuck that was a terrible discription lol. i need to take screen shots or something. if i have time i'll try an put somethin together.

Good stuff 5th, and yeah, I'd be interested in the soundclick/explanation idea.

if you're using a midi controller, or drumpad thingy to program your drums just don't quantize them like classic said...

it gives it more of a natural feel...

if you can't do that then just manually draw them into the piano roll.... its time consuming, but i guess if you expermient and shit you could be able to achieve the results you want

so if hi hats make the swing, lets say i drop a hi hat on every other beat in the step sequencer, then export that to piano roll, should i just slide all of them over to the right a little off beat? is that what you guys mean?

I'll do some screens of what I'm talking about this afternoon and either post them then or later tonight.

if u got those holy mpc templates u can absolutly choose a diffrent swing for every channel u have,i dont even use the fl swing anymore wit those. those templates are a godsend and the dude that took the time to create em should have his own shrine here
