ok, so i just picked up the mpc 2500 and 2 krk rp5 monitors. today i hooked everything up, and in my right speaker i get a low, very random crackle. these are my first monitors, so i dont know if this is normal or not. is there anything i can do to stop this or should i just take them back for some new ones. i have everything going into a monster cable surge protector btw.

Right away I would say it's the wires, but what about the speakers - are they used? Did you try taking the wires that are in the right speaker and using them for the left speaker?

What kind of cables are you using? This happened to me when I tried to save a few bucks and got some cheap radio shack cables. I ended up getting better cables and the problem was fixed. The Monster surge protector should have removed most AC and RF noise, so if you try new cables and you still get noise from just the one speaker then it's possoble it's a lemon and might have some bad internal wiring. If it's still brand new, I would return it and not risk further problems down the line after the warrenty is up. Good Luck!

i havn't really heard the crackles today, so i'm thinking maybe it was just cause it was the first time i turned them on. i got 27 days left to return them, so i'll let you guys know if it comes back.

50 CAL - Those cables are unbalanced. You might want to try some 1/4 inch to XLR balanced cables. Your KRK accept XLR or 1/4 inch. Balanced cables are supposed to be better and cut down on noise and popping when turning monitors on/off. They worked for me. With unbalanced cables my monitors would pop really loud when I shut them off. Now they don't, so I guess it's true.

On that vein, is it true if you plug your monitors into 2 different outlets that it creates a "grounding noise"?
Low background hum.

I don't know about that so I can't say, but a good power conditioner should eliminate most AC hum and RF interference. Also, you should never run speaker cables parallel to power lines, this will cause AC hum. Any of these equipment stores have all kinds of gadgets and filters to block out all types off noise, hum and feedback. Some cheap and some really expensive. If you invested any money in gear, a few more bucks for a power conditioner is good insurance.
