So I've made the song, now what?

Lately I have been working with a friend of mine on some songs. All of the beats are either 100% mine or I have worked on to some degree, and I have done all of the recordings (he writes and raps). I have been searching and doing reading on how selling beats works, but this seems to be different since we are working together. We have a few songs completed and they sound good but I am hesitant to just throw them on a CD and give them to him, even though he's a friend of mine.

So essentially, what actions should be taken at this point (or should have already been taken)? Contracts, copyrights? Thanks for any help or input you have.
