set ups(broke mans paradox)

I see guys with all the latest gear. I mean they have a trition this, fantom that, Every MPC ever made and have a mac G4 wtih 5 GB of ram running logic, protools etc...

But their beats are wack, what up with that???

I persnally think its the broke mans paradox, You give a broke ass dude a piece of gear (hardware or software) and he is gonna learn that shit inside out. As oppsed to these rich cats who by the newist gear when ever they want and dont bother to learn shit.
these cats honestly think think the next edition of the MPC or the newist version of logic is gonna make them a better producer.

WTF?!?!

has anyone else noticed this

class.....

Ive noticed that too.

I think its kinda cuz the people who can afford all this different shit they dont even need, then they buy it, they dont really care bout the music. There doin it cuz they think theyll instantly make hot beats and be the coolest producer of all time. Then they see it aint that easy, and they give up on it later on. The kids who are poor and gotta get a job for 2 years so they can afford there first busted up piece of equipment, do it cuz they love music and they wanna respect and understand how hip-hop is done. It really aint the equipment you got. And im diggin all the time and i try to always look for dope records, but it aint about the sounds. Its how you use the equipment and how you use the sounds. But some people are too much in a hurry to be the best producer that they dont take the time to try and understand it aint bout what you got.

but thats just my opinion.

Whenever a new trend comes out, theres always gonna be the rich kids who spend a load of money on whatever it is cuz they wanna be cool. Whatever new trend it is. There aint much of a way around it.

ill o.g.
equipment dont mean shit wether you are rich or poor. its all about your own feeling, talent and ears. there are people who can rok a comb with a piece of paper folded over it and make you nod your head, and there are peeps who have expensive this and hardware that and latest akai this who know their equipment but still cant make decent music. has nothing to do with wealth and/or equipment.

and lets not forget, a poor unemployed dude is gonna be able to sit at home and jam beats all day, some rich kid with a fancy job with long hours and/or (night)school is not gonna have as much time to perfect their skill or lack thereof.

Werd I've noticed this too. Its crazy ima tell you one of the best "ameture" producers I ever heard ill muziks very own AFRIQUE DELUXE when I found out all he uses is Reason 2.5 and a crappy computer (no offense) I knew right then its not bout the equipment.

And that's true damn rich kids wanna jump on the bandwagon and be a producer cause its cool now. Daddys and mommys buy them studios full of gear. And they hardly use it right. What's realy sad is 1 of them will probably "make it" as a producer b4 1 0f us because there daddy has a connection.

Case in point Mark Ronson. Went from unknown bedroom dj to djin in all the hotest clubs in ny in 3 months cause his daddy was friends with Peter Gatien (infamous ny night club owner) ..... Then went on to become an established producer.

Damn rich boys.
Lol

yea its true class i think it because if you havent got the latest gear you're often more hungry and you're doing the best you can with what you've got ! Its not about having the best stuff you can give and idiot all the equipment in the world and they won't make shit but give a quality producer just enough to work with and he'll make sumthing hot !
Also like other people already if saif if mummy and daddy are paying for all that stuff its more than likely a fad for them which they will start show off all their equipment then got bored !

this, coming from a guy runnng an mpc 2000xl and a motif rack........lol

personally, i have been through every concieveable stage with this outside of having an mpc 4000 and motif es combo!

i completely agree. people fail to uinderstand one key thing: sequencing is sequencing. end of discussion! different sequencers do provide different options, however.... but the method is the same. it really is the same... just different tools and ways of doing it.

all i need is a sound source (tritons all the way down to a casio, doesnt matter), sequencer (mpc on down to fl), and a controller and i'm straight- now sound quality is a different story. mixing and actual PRODUCING tools-having a good recording setup-is a different animal all together. having a high quality piano from the motif es makes a huge difference as opposed to the tinny sounds of a casio.

my compositional skills would be the same, hectics digging and chopping skills are the same, but having the best possible setup to SHAPE THE SOUND of the music is important.

man, i couldnt agree with you more!

Hopps' example:

Im a DJ. When i started, 5 years ago, i had one (1) belt driven turntable and a 22$ radio shack mixer with a broken stiff crossfader. I had it running with only one (1) rca cable to my stereo, which for some reason even turned up @ full volume i had to have my ear pressed to the speaker to hear a damn thing. Besides that, i had 3 records and my moms needle. This was my set up for MONTHS! I spent all day learning hand techniques and scratch basics, and i used to do remixes to instrumentals on my pc with the one acapella (alkaholiks) that i had... oh man, i feel pathetic just thinking about it!

well, i was the first one of my homies to get into this shit... 2 weeks after i set up my shitty set-up, a friend of mine dropped 1800$ and bought a FULL SETUP! speakers and everything.

He calls himself a dj but the truth is hes AMAZINGLY WACK and his decks are in the CLOSET! some people want the end result, but arent willing to put in the work.
You gotta start ghetto, thats my way of life....

but now, ive accumulated a nice amount of gear, but i worked my ass off to get it.

fuck you rich kids, im banging your girlfriend right now.

Isnt it all to obvious, kids wanna be rich ass pimps as fast as possible thinking that you can cop the stuff the "pro's" use and score instant hits when merely powering on. Each of mentioned machines here take some time to get into and really get in depth knowing what your doing. If you're just starting out and buy a combo of any bad ass machine thinking you got the solution then you're fooled ( and a noob ). It takes a whole lot more and at the least 2 years of experience in order to develop somekind of composing- and/or mixing skills.

I definitly agree, 100%... its all in the hunger for what u tryin to do with it... Most of these cats out here (even the one's that are hustlin there bread to get the shit, not just the rich kids) don't know shit about music and just try to use what everyone else uses so they can say they are like everyone else... People just want to make music to make money now, that's what seems to be in... Cat's no longer want to make music with feeling, or about an issue thats on there mind... They just make the latest song about being posted up in the hood, slangin yay and ridin spinners... I personally could care less about that shit... I'm more of a concious listener, i like to hear about stories (that really happened or if they didn't happen make them sound good) and what cat's got on the agenda to better themselves from what's going on in there present life... Music should motivate you to do positive things not to go sell drugs and shoot people... U feel me? All this stuff that's out now is all based around "havin funds" not "havin fun...." And that's real..

True...

I had a commercial place i rent for 8 months and ran a studio in it. It was located in a musician-only building where there was a big studio, a shop, and a lot of pratice local for musicians. When i first arrived i spoke with the owner of tha studio, who own the building and i was telling him my plan to buy a lot of great gear in the next months wanting a better sound and being more professionnal. But he taught me you can do a lot with a less.

A guy that know how stuff work will do a better job with equipment in his hands than with only a pc and a software but sometimes it can be deadly to begin with too much things.

If a guy or girl born rich, probably he'll be used to have wathever he wants so he'll not learn a lot in life.

I never heard of a good producer who wasn't broke first!!

i agree with what Cold said about sequencing is sequencing. word to that. its a matter of putting certain sounds in certain positions. simple as that.

my philosiphy is: only get new equipment when your current setup limits you severly.
