Well Guitar Center is known for some major unethical practices and for just being dumb..in fact see the "Stupid things you have been told a guitar center" thread at http://www.gearslutz.com/board/moan-zone/112000-stupid-things-youve-been-told-guitar-center.html its over 50 pages long.

As far as AVID they are suffering from years of really bad management.
