Hey,

In English, this means that with a sampler, you can record a sound, like someone burping, and 'play' the burping sound with a keyboard. The best example I can think of is in the movie 'Ferris Beuller's Day Off' where Ferris has an old Ensoniq keyboard playing the sounds of him coughing and moaning when his parent's open the door to his bedroom.

What you would do with it for making music is recording something like a drum loop or musical phrase, and you can use something called a sequencer to play those sounds back, one after the other, so that they all come together and form a song.

A sampler is probably the single most important musical instrument for making hip hop music because a lot of it is based on sounds that come from other sources, like old funk and soul records.

Take care,

Nick

hmmm for the money, i would advise you to spend the additional 200 bucks on the upgrade to that- the sp 505. i had the lower version, the 202, and it is very reliable and a great way to get the hang of phrase sampling. the reason i say go with the 505 is because it has a sequencer and built in sounds already. with this you can make beats with just the 505 and a record player/cd player/microphone/etc.

bear in mind that not all samplers are created equal- some samplers are made for the primary use of playing back instruments, ala sound modules and leyboards, only with a (for the most part) much better result...... anyhow you can do some things with the 303 but the 505 will allow you to do a full production for cheap, whereas with the 303 you will still need a sequencer.

I used the SP-303 in a Guitar Shop and it was great, its got tons of built-in effects, 4 Banks of 8 samples, and its really easy to use, i think it would last you a long time no mater your skill level. Id say get it.
