Running beats live?

What's up people? I'm an emcee getting ready to play shows. I just bought a DAT machine (Tascam DA-30 mkII) for running my beats. This is my first time performing without a live band . . . and I'm a little nervous about being on stage with just a mic and a machine, LOL.

Does anybody have any experience with running live beats? Like what works best?

Should record the whole show on the DAT and just let it play through? Or have someone stopping and starting the DAT during the show?

This may sound like a dumb set of questions but I don't know anyone who has experience with this.

what i did when i was emceeing was make a CD w/ a intro mix into the 1st trk, then a middle mix leading into the 2nd trk.... so you can hype the crowd on the intro....then talk to them inbetween, maybe catch your breath, then hit em hard again...

Man forget a dat. GET A DJ damn dats are killing hip hop.

Here's what you need A dj, and a set of cdj 1000s wit a scratch mixer

Burn ya beats (with the ablibs in em , so many mcs 4get dat) on cd and let the dj rock em .
People like to see the dj workind and hear him scratching @ shows.

(Advice from a ex mc and current dj and producer who has done many shows.)
