I am trying to duplicate that spanish reggae feel, but i realize that the sounds i use are just not.......well....spanishy. I've tried searching, but its a headache, so i hope by starting this thread, we can begin a thorough discusion on tricks, sample trades, or even fl tudio zip files of loops.
thanks in advance for all help.

try fiddling with the pitch of the snares and look for steel drums and caracas (sp) or carambas (sp)... for some reason i have a plethra of spanish sounding instruments with my sound banks.. if there was a forum for us to upload samples i would share some.

Yo! A Possile Tip!

Yo! Krzy,

When Making Reggae, DanceHall, or Hip Hop mixed with any type of culture: The Main Key.... is study the music you intend on using! When I say Study....I mean listen to the sounds that are used... Listen to various styles of that particular music and classify the instruments into "Group Types"(i.e.. Snares- Dry/Crisp/Hollow/ Thick...ect.) Do This With all the instruments & when you pay attention to the instruments, the formula for constructing or adding it to Hip Hop Will Automatically Come to You. Sounds Kind Of Bugged out Yo, But It's worked for me....Word is Bond , B! I make danceHall, Salsa, Roots Reggae, & I just happen to have one of my Aces as an artist & he chants dancehall.. he really gave me the idea.. He Said "Yo! just burn a -L- and listen for awhile not to enjoy the music but to break it down into it's elements" It works!!!! Trust Me!!!! I'm gonna have his "SOUNDCLICK" uploaded in the next few days ....so Look every time U remember 4 ,,,,,Self-Lion at soundclick. I'm gonna try to upload a DanceHall Track Into My Site, so go peep it,.. iiaght K • 1 LUV •

i find makein reggaeton is alot like dancehall...establish ur bare beat, then just spruce it up wit different percussion hits,

reggaeton usually is between 100-110 BPM from what i've listened to . i'm not too familiar with it but some of its pretty ill.

what I do sometimes is when I want like a bossa nova drumbeat,
I take a loop of an original track, put it in fruity loops, find the bpm and place my own drums under the loop till it fits.
than remove the loop and start adding your own style and swing to the drumbeat.
works perfectly for me.

Good, good..........loving the feedback, and advice, and J malice - sorry you missed out, but Reggaeton seem to be the next thing for the spanish folks, it features twisted type of a reggae\dancehall beat, but features very unique spanish sounds, that are hard to duplicate if you dont know nothing about the spanish culutre, thats why i started this thread, to learn and see what it is i am missing out on. So far all advices been great, and you should do a search on soundclick for reggaeton, you'll find some amateur tracks on there, or its very rare, but turn your radio to the spanish channel, to become up to date. thnx everyone

Yo k what's good. Man you live in the heart of reggaeton town. Holla @ all dem people in ya hood. Especialy dem bad dominican chicks on broadway have them teach you the culture of reaggaeton. Like was said the best way is to study the music. And culture.

But yo im interested to in making it. Yeah the sounds are very distinct you can't just use just any. Let me know if you come up wit any and ill do the same.

I was thinking bout choping up 1 in recycle and see what sounds I could extract
And maybe sampling some salsa records (lotts horn and instrumental breaks) and see what I come up wit.
