when recordibng from my mpc 2kxl, is it worth running it through my dj mixer (mic imput...doesnt allow for eq)?????

the difference is that i can have the master vol on the mpc much lower if i use the mixer. if i go straight from mpc to pc i have to have the mpc master vol up full.

will going through the mixer make my recording any cleaner for how loud it is?

the reason i ask is beacuse of this........

when i make plug the mpc (with full master vol) into the mic imput of my home stereo and have the home stereo on vol 10, it will not be any where near as loud as if i play a cd on the stereo on vol 10. BUT if i plug the mpc (with master volume only a quarter up) into my dj mixer and then run the dj mixer to the stereo, i can make it as loud as the cd by turning up the master volume on the mixer to full (db on the mixer stays around -10).

so basically i was wondering if that extra oomph from the mixer is good for the recording process to get a loud clear recording.

thanks

you need monitors if you want to accuratly check your sound & frequency levels. Get monitor speakers or headphones then try all your option. If your mixer has a pre amp on it, it's a posibility you can get some sound enhancement from it.

a high end stereo colors the sound, you need something that doesn't color the and leave the response of the sound FLat so you can actually hear whats going on. So then later when your checking the beat on somebody else's stereo your not like WTF?? I didn't do that to the drum sound.

so if i understand correctly, the idea of monitor speakers is to make it sound exactly as it is.....without any form of enhancement. then when played on a stereo it will only sound better. is that correct?

also, my stereo does have a "flat" setting in the EQ. is that what im looking for?

thanks

yes, the monitors are soposed to allow you to hear exactly what is there and nothing else.

as far as when playing it on a stereo and having it sound better, thats only if its a "good" mix on the monitors in the first pllace...

as far as your stereos "flat" setting, i dont know... just get monitors. ha ha.
