I'm have a problem recording my vocals in Pro Tools.

I have my M-Audio 2496 outputs running to my Alesis Mixer Input.

I also have my Mic In on my Mixer.

When I get ready to record audio, the beat is recorded with the vocals. Can someone help me with my setup. How can I set my equipment up to where I can record vocals without the beat behind it. Do I need another pre-amp or can I use my current setup. Any help is useful. Thanks a lot.

if not, what digidesign hardware do you have?

and why are you plugging your mic into your mixer?

yea i'm using the m-powered. i'm plugging my mic in my mixer because it has a mic input and it's phantom powered. my mixer is sort of like a soundcard if you read about it on the website. is there something else i can plug my mic into. do i need a preamp.
