I did a collaboration with a female vocalist, and we have a great chemistry...the first song we did is called "Our Love" you can listen here... https://www.illmuzik.com/vip/viceverse_ourlovekahnmaprodbyvicecity.m3u

any way, my question is where should I go from here? I have a couple ideas as how I want to get it into clubs and what not, but the prob is she is in Hawaii and I am in Cali, so I can't really get her buzz going by having her do shows here. I'm trying to see if anyone here has any other Ideas to get this song some exposure. It is definitely a radio song, and I think once they hear it, we have a chance of gettin some play. What do you all think, or better yet, what would you do in my situation?

and as far as me and the artist, she has agreed to basically do an entire album with me and ColdTruth. We are going to be puttin out a little mixtape/e.p. with our crew ("WillStrong")which is myself, ColdTruth, her, and one other emcee who we are working with. Kinda like how Timbo, Missy, and Aliyah were affiliated....
but that's later... right now I have this song which I think is gold just sittin in my computer and I want to get it out there... any tips or ideas will be appreciated.

well ill give u an idead of how we will push our single "cuckoo" soon. maybe it will help u . first ... get the myspace poppin.. add friends,advertise/bulltein ur song as free download and even a free ringtone which u can do from myxer. the most influential people for new artists are djs.... alot of djs u can get at right offa myspace/facebook.. send them a link to downaload... u can even hit up xm radio and send them ur stuff... the key is to be relentless. if its in their face enough they will listen and if they are not feelin it at first the more they listen the more they will have to pay ateention to it. djs are the key, again djs are they key. If she is in hawia thats not neccersairly a bad thing. hawaii is isolated so word should travel quickly. so if she gets lil buzz out there it could turn into something huge. Also, I cant listen to your mix cuz im at work right now, but if u really believe in the song u might want to get it mixed and mastered pro. In R&b the mix is essential to your presentaion. In hip hop u can get away with some things but r&B mixes are for the most part flawless. Alot of guys are really expensive but if u shop around u might be able to get it done for anywhere from $125-$300. but choose a good guy. Promote it everywhere u can. clubs, bars, pubs, get as many listens as u can and most importantly, give it to the djs. dont give up if u dont get an initial buzz.. alot of new artists had there song out a for close to a year before it really blew up.

thanks man this does give me some more Ideas... The mix i got up isn't finished. Cold actually showed the song to some guy at this local record shop, and some other dude was there named "knuckles" who said he was a road agent for G unit, and that it blew him away. He wants us to submit some beats for Young Buck and some other dude named Realest. He also mentioned some westcoast artists....but anyways, the guy liked her singing and wants to get her on a hook for either buck or realest, so we'll see if he's legit. I'm going to be hittin djs up though for sure, I'm going ot promote the hell outta this song around my area and hopefully someone will take notice. You actually called it when I showcased the beat....I don't know if you remember but you said it could be a radio hit with the right female on it.....lol....good ear my dude.

yeah man, she's a dope person.... Thank you again Reli Rel for tellin me to hit her up, If something big comes from this than you are one of the first ones comin up : )

It could be a good idea to press some copies to cd, get an A&R directory and then phone each relevant A&R starting locally, explain who you are why you are phoning and to see if they are currently accepting demo material. Doing things this way, as long as you have a good telephone manner, makes it more likely that when you demo turns up at the A&Rs desk its more likely to get a listen. Always follow up the sending out of the demo with an aftercall to see if they got the demo and to see if they have listened to it, if they havent listened it reminds them to check it out. I have been offered deals to get a track out on a promo white label, which is then distributed to dj's/labels, but I have to say that you dont get anything for nothing. It does cost money to get anything out this way. It takes money to make money, thats how they keep us little people down.
Your track does sound very commercial and I would think that it is worth investing the money into. A professional mix & mastering would also be essential. But if you can get an A&R and then possibly a label to back the track then it would take away a lot of the financial burden from yourself.
I would recommend getting the backing of a label for one reason, if they invest in your track then they are going to work hard to recoup the money they invested, which also means that promotion will be taken care of by them. Promotion can be a bottomless pit of expense, and to have that taken care of by people with contacts in the game then it would be a better result all round. It all hangs on the final contract that the label offers tho, you have to be careful with the contract and definitly get it checked over by a music lawyer, which is more money, but could save you getting undercut or ripped off in some way. Good luck.

^^ i agree 2good but the fact is labels will shy the other way unless uhave some sort of buzz going .. there are people who try for years to get deals by going directly to labels with great material but its all for nothing without a buzz... i would concentrate on that first. try ur best to get the record poppin locally and then approach labels a lil bit later. ideally u would like labels getting at you, as opposed to u chasing down these guys. There are countless dudes that have gotten signed off of just one song that blew up in their local market. too many to name in fact.

That is a very good point, the labels like to see you generate a buzz because if there is already a potential market it takes away some of the risk for them, and it shows them you are marketable in the first place.

thanks guys, I got some heads interested in it that are dj's for the number one radio station in my area....so that is a good start....I'm going to just hit up as many dj's as possible, and see where it goes from there. The demo thing is a good point, and I need to press up some copies of the song and start passing them around.

Make a promo pack and find management. If management thinks they can work with you (and her) then they will create the connections for you. Make sure it is a reputable management company, not some idiot that thinks they are a manager.

Other than that, A&R will want to sign HER and leave you out the picture. Did you or her write the lyrics? Also, you can be cut out, or bought out-- if an industry cat wants in. What are you going to do-- sue? It's a good song and you should push.

Start knockin' doors in L.A. immediately though, it's pretty damn good.

Remember what an industry head will say: "If she's so interested in her music career-- why is she in Hawaii?" It shows that she's not "serious" (even though she is.)

I was commenting on "Our Love by Khanma"-- which is on ViceCity's myspace page NOT "Find a Way".
