Whats good illmuzik fam!

I am in the process of building a recording studio in the Atlanta downtown area and plan on opening up for business around the first of the year. The studio will be 4,105 sq.ft. and is it being built out to my needs. I plan of having a Main control room A, B room ,C room (the pre-production lab) and a live room. Each room will have a iso vocal booth and i will have a drum booth for a full drum kit.

I need you guys advice on a few things I'm a lil unsure about.

1.Which console would be the best option for the Main room A?
-Digidesign C24
-SSL AWS 900+
-SSL Matrix

2.Since the Main room A will be where the majority of the recording & mixing will happen, what equipment should I put in the room B? (I would like to use B as an alternative to room A)

Any advice would be great!!!

Id prob put the C24 in the A room if its primarily for mixing....
The SSL's are renowned for the channel strips on them so i would prefer those for tracking personally....

Track on a Matrix or something equivalent (which would be awesome by the way!, thats my new dream board) in Studio B, and then finish up sessions or let clients make beats and mix in Studio A on the C24.

Just swap PT sessions from one studio to the other.

* Oh i think i misread?....Just switch the studios A & B around i guess from the way i wrote it...

Damnnnnnnnnnnnnnn......somebody hit the lotto or something. All those "goodies" are beyond my scope.

The only thing I would add to the list is a good Engineer, a few dudes who know the gear that your installing inside and out (unless you'll be there every waking minute of the day), and someone to reaalllllly advertise and promote your studio. That way clients who don't have a clue won't be running wild and screwing up you your investment and you can start getting the spot booked for time ASAP. Reads like it'll be a pretty dope studio for some quality pre-production though.

What side of the A are you opening this facility?

Anyway, hope it jumps off for you

you are wasting some cash with how you are setting up the HD and C24 systems. Also what is your budget for cables, power conditioning? How do you plan on making this thing profitable? What is your budget for the building? Making a studio work is a tough business venture and honestly the gear is a small part of it. I would say go through this business plan http://48days.faithsite.com/content.asp?CID=14694 and get everything figured out. BTW you can get the Illmuzik SW discount if you call me 800-222-4700 ext 1388

ha ha shameless self promotion.

The total budget for the building is $200,000.The property is already owned by my family so its being signed over to me.The quote I received for designing the studio was $20,000 and the designer knows exactly what i'm looking for.Of course I have a business plan that is legit but I'm not posting it on the forum. I posted looking for advice on equipment not advice on running a studio or a business, got that aspect covered.Im looking to build a studio with the best quality and a comfortable enviorment for future customers and my company. The business aspect is heading the right direction.I need direction on equipment setups for each room. The pre-production & live room is covered.I am now putting the outline for the Main room a & room b.So any advice on these?

So you said im waisting money on the pro tools hd/c24 setup, explain further?

Sorry just trying to help. With studios closing every day I was just trying to make sure you knew what you are getting in to. BTW no one is going to steal your business plan. So post it if you like, if not thats cool to. You can get the C24/hd2 bundled for cheaper. Is the designer working on gear or just acoustics? Also you do know I do this for a living right?

The designer is just working on acoustics/layout, im looking for some consultation on the gear. The c24/hd combo is probably the route I want to take with some high end plugins.I didnt realize you did it for a living.Whats your thought on a main control room built around the c24/pro tools hd?

C24 HD2 for the main room is great. Have you been able to llsten to the pre's on the C24? Do you like them? I love mixing in the box. I think your plan is great. BTW Your HD2 system will come with PT7.4 so you dont haave to pay $200 for it.

What about for the B room any thoughts?

Seriously...thedream will hook u up with that discount. Make sure you hit him up for the whole purchase....I don't think he can be beat!!!

On studio tip though..I did it for two years. From 1999 to 2001. I spent more time in it producing than I did having clients purchase studio time. Though it was cool to have a stand alone building it was a big waste of money for me. Money I can never get back. If I had a cool million I don' think I'd do that again. Unless you have some big name people involved to draw in the clients you'll have to really get on your grind to get them in there and offer something that so many other studios in the A don't offer.

I found out that most clients wanted to be away from the hustle of the city. I think something on the out skirts or Atlanta would be better if I would ever do it again.

What type of music are you doing? Bands, Emcee's? Soundtracks? What is room B going to be used for most of the time?

I wont be recording any bands at all, more down the line of vocals and groups. The B room will be used for a lot of tracking and room A will be the recording/mix room.

I feel you on that the big dawgs like doppler and patchwerk get alot of business.I plan on using it as a home for my production company as well so everybody will benefit from it.

Cool...just go into it and get out of it what you can. Hopefully your fam isn't looking for a return on the money they're lending and are just trying to get behind you so you can get out there in a big way. If that's the case you'll be successful.

Get it up and going and I'll definitely spend some cheddar with you. Once again....good luck and hit thedreampolice up...nothing like getting everything you need from one spot. They may even send a consultant down for you to help map things out.
