Just want some advice from heads on how they go about keeping variety in their beat. After the general vibe how do you all go about mixing it up. I"m making my beats to rhyme over....not just to have play out....so I'm not trying to get them all complicated just for the sake of it. If you have any tricks you use I'd appreciate some feedback.

Thanx,

When i go to mix the track at the end, i mute everything besides the kick, hat, and snare. I mix those the i start unmuting some of the instruments while i mix them. Then i mix the beat again after i got everything all unmuted.

One tip i can give you, is just have the main loop, and extend for about 3 minutes. Then have your MC rhyme to it. Then when you get done recording, then you mix it up, like start off with just the piano, and set the whole shit up afgter they recorded there rhymes to it.

Hey thats a good Idea Helix, or you can simply record a drum pattern live to the loop, I do at least the 8 bar loop construction, copy that to make 16, mute and drop then if I am not being lazy copy tnat to 32 bars again and mute and drop more....switch up drumz....leave space for the verse and hook..a lot of the effort is on how much you want to copy and paste and where you want to mute.......if you multitrack your beat that opens up more possiblities to go back to that track and even add more to it later.....this to me falls into the 1 week beat....unfortunately if you are like me, I usually don't have time to work on a beat for a week unless it's a paid project or I want to put lots of effort into it.....the main thing nowadays for your beats is to avoid the 8 bar repitition and even the 16...you gotta paint a nice picture that won't bore the listener....but if you are like me I work with MC's so they gonna try and help you out by telling you to loop the beat at a certain point and cut all of the pretty fat out of the track..........
