Had a beat battle over the weekend. Looks as if your pal Sucio was doomed from the start....

#1. We were watching the organizer put us in brackets. He was just pairing us up as our names came up on the list. When I was up..he skipped my name, paired up some other dudes. Then put me up against some guy. Now I thought that was fishy from the start..

#2. Now when I was up against this dude, the host (who is also a judge) called out the dude like "next up is a veteran of the beat battle game, my man (then says his name). Round one - had to play 3 quick :30 clips of beats (track lasted 1:30). The dude had some people moving but not even close to how I had it.

Now I'm thinking I had this in the bag, but nope! The dudes voted for the other guy....I mean the dude's mix was horrible & the beats were boring.

It's crazy because the battle before mine, one guy got jerked because he was up against a local DJ who does a lot of the local shows out here......and I thought the DJ had OK beats at best.. (i'm comparing them mostly to my own and beats I hear on this site). The other kid had better tracks hands down...even more so than my battle....of course he lost too....

Now if the guy straight up had harder tracks, then I'll graciously accept defeat....but that was definitely not the case.

But that's how Orlando is. If you're not down with the locals and rep Orlando hard, no one would show you love......

It was a bad experience all around....the battle was supposed to start @ 3pm.....It didn't start until 8pm.....I was out there for 5 hours jerking around. The battle was outside, to boot. For the first 3 hours it was fucking hot as hell...(wearing a black polo and jeans in 80+ degrees). If there wasn't any prize money involved, I would've bounced real quick.

Fortunately for me, I took some of the time to network with some emcees....who I thought was actually good.

I feel you dude, been there done that type shit....
Honestly, most of those things are always congested with the same heads that all know each other and want to go big up their boy on stage pushing play on the MP. (even if hes wack)

Basically what happens, is you get a bunch of male chearleaders all chanting homies name when its time to vote since their all on the same team even though the majority of the crowd clearly was hoppin to your shit more - which is usually the case at these things (especially if the venue is small). That shits wack as hell cuz now were talkin politics rather then simply gettin dap for the raw simple fact that fools were feelin yer shit.

yep... i went up against an ASRX and clearly beat this dude... im not knockin the ASRX, but yo, yaw know its sequencing probs, and it showed in both this dudes beats... but he had the whole left side of the room ridin with him... they had to vote twice bcuz the 1st time the cheers were even... and just like u, when the show was over some people came up to me and said i had the best beats of the night... basically, u just gotta put it behind u and keep grindin... i did eventually win one of these... it took my live "meow mix" beat transformation to put me over the top.

Ya this definitely sucks!

Slightly off topic, but I've seen the same thing first hand with DJ battles. I had been to a local one years ago and the #1 and #2 spots were no brainers, but for #3 everyone figured it would go to this one guy, nope, it went to this local DJ that only DJ'd parties! His set was wack, all he did was play popular records, he didn't scratch, juggle, nothing. Why did he get third? Because he was friends with every single person on the judging panel. Dude that was supposed to get third looked pissed.

So long story short, these battles suck if you ask me. It's too biased, there's no playing field because everyone's looking for the local cats that they know already.

Well..I did it to try to win the money ($500). I was going to put that money towards the down payment on my house...

I was doing it also to network with some dudes who wanted beats (and were willing to pay).

I didn't go there to be the champion.......I could care less about the title....

It was more rewarding to win a Beat This! than that battle...at least cats on here have some talent...

But that's why they won't get any kind of deal....first because they suck....second they won't get any better at their craft because they're comparing themselves with their friends, who also suck.

I envy a lot of you guys in the US because you get opportunities like this with the battles and shit, but it pisses me off to hear that dudes basically get cheated out of it. You go to a lot of forums and it's like that too, dudes voting for the other guy because he's a regular on the site.

Update:

I found out I battled that dude a year and a half ago at the scribble jam competition...

I basically clowned him....He played his beat first....then as soon as my beat went on, he walked off the stage.

I guess it was "redemption" on his part...
