My definition of a BATTLE BEAT!

No one seems to be addressing this issue so I will make a first attempt...

First of all, Webster's definition of a "BATTLE" means "to fight, between armies". Now I can't speak for you cats but to me a BATTLE means to come hard, come strong, and no holds barred! A BATTLE BEAT should reflect a hard, strong and no holds barred BEAT. I know that some of you cats say that there's NO true format for a BATTLE BEAT and you're absolutely correct but let's be real...A BATTLE BEAT should be a beat that makes you want to punch something, not bop your head. A BATTLE BEAT should make you get hype, not sit back and chill with your girl...lol. A BATTLE BEAT should make you put on your game face, not wanting to peep a chic for the next slowdance.

Yes there are different types of BATTLE BEATS but since this is a site for hip hop producers then I would expect to hear a hip hop BATTLE BEAT.

This is not an attack on anyone or their beats, I'm just saying that BATTLE BEATS should be just that...a BATTLE!

The Websters definition is completely different to the definition within Hiphop culture.

I think battles should be strictly about building skills. Ive said that before and ill continue to stand by it unless a better idea comes along.

I totally agree Dac. You can build skills at home, in the showcase and perhaps even the beat this...but in a beat battle, you have to come hard and brutal.
You don't see MC's in a battle building their skills, they can do that at home with friends, they come hard and dissing left and right, they don't just rhyme some mellow stuff or something about how much in love they are etc etc

Yes! Finally someone breaks it down nicely. I agree with Dacalion, a battle beat is something that makes you wanna go "Oh shit, no he didn't!" or something like that. Punch a wall, your wife, your cat, whatever. I would say Eminem's "Lose Yourself" is a perfect example. (Please let's NOT get into a debate about Em or that song).

no doubt... a battle beat should also relate to a battle rap.... in which you bring ferocity to intimidate and weaken your opponent...

as far as emcees that battle rap... when's the last time you seen an emce bust out and sing like r.kelly or usher as way of winning a battle?
