I've been trying to learn music theory recently and came across this guy's videos. I've gone through maybe like half of them so far, but they've been pretty helpful in understanding the basics in a super user-friendly and simple way. You guys should check them out if you're interested in learning.

I feel like every beat maker and producer (especially) should know basic music theory if you haven't already learned it through experimentation.

Thank you for this resource, the explanations are clear and the videos are easy to follow. I agree that you need to know more about music theory at a certain point, I am actually at that point in my beatmaking !

Same here - haven't messed with samples in months. Something about creating something from scratch has a different vibe that I've been caught on.

Yeah I have a few beats from scratch but I find it a lot more intuitive to start from a sample. But the creative process of starting from scratch is really cool and I do need to push myself to do it more often !

thanks for this link, i'll check it out later. Music theory is definitely good to know. At the moment I like to make beats with a sample, and then add synths etc., so basic theory is definitely good to know (such as scales, chord progressions and the like).

I found the following quite helpful -

The bassline one is gold! thanks for the share

Even for sampled based producers I think theory is important. Even if you just use it to help get samples in tune with each other or to build chords or bass notes around in key with the samples.

It's definitely one of those things that rewards you for the time invested in it.
