Hello, 1st post...need help please...

I have FL6 on a Dell Inspiron9100 laptop w/ a Soundblaster Audigy II NX USB external soundcard and I just got an MPD16...

am having latecy issues...

already tried using a plain AISO driver ( see http://tippach.business.t-online.de/asio4all/faq.html) and it worked on timing my hits on the pads to the sound out my speakers...great...but

there is MAJORLY noticeable difference between what I play and what is recorded.

I did some research and it seems the USB2 soundcard is just not good enough (apparently any USB2 external soundcard is not good enough from what one Indigo IO soundcard reviewer wrote on http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...d_bbs_1/002-0304792-8015241?v=glance&n=507846)...

si it seems the indigo IO is great w. latency and everyone loves it.

$200 - thats a lot for me damnit.

anyone think it may be the MPD16 and/or fruity loops? I tried to record using the MPD16 in FL6,5, and 4 and got the same results...

this leads me to believe i need to get an indigo IO.

agree?

ideas?

any?

thanks....! i promise no more of "..." in the next post...

peace

nick

ALSO: i type mpd16 latency in google and get this page as #1 https://www.illmuzik.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-4228.html

this isnt how i found this site but dope none the less

Adjust the buffer. In FL go to options->audio settings and make the buffer smaller. I had a USB Sound Card before and the latency was unnoticeable. BTW I have the 9100 too.

Good Luck,

OK, adjusting the buffer did help somewhat, thanks. My computer though either cant handle FL6 + MPD or im still having issues w/ the soundblaster USB. Hey do you know if the 9100 has a Type I or II CardBus slot?

thanks again,

Nick

Whats the name of the ASIO driver you're using? How much RAM do you have? Do you keep the comp. plugged in when making beats? The 9100 has a type II slot. I use the Audigy 2 ZS PCMCIA card and everything is cool in terms of latency. The 9100 is a powerfull notebook more than capable of handling FL and controllers with low latency (with the right souncard and yours should be good).

-the asio driver is asio4all

-Pentium 4 2.80GHz, 512MB of RAM, 28GB HD left

-comp plugged in: yes (battery is toast)

-perhaps your latency is good because of your soundcard isnt USB (mine is)

-thanks for the CardBus type info

Your reply further solidifies that the answer is to replace my USB soundcard.

Did the NX ship with the CREATIVE ASIO driver?

I did some more research and you're right, the NX is not the best solution for low latencies, but drivers do exist that will help you bypass some of the processing by the OS (http://www.ploytec.com/), but you are probably better off going with a PCMCIA card like the Audigy 2 ZS. The Indigo is pretty expensive and the ZS is dope anyways.

You should double your RAM also, the notebook will perform better overall.

Good Luck,

Excellent, thanks to your help, i feel like i am making progress here.

Question: Besides price, is there another reason to go w/ the PCMCIA soundcard rather than the CardBus type?

The soundblaster did come with the creative ASIO driver but FL cant/wont use it. It gives me an error message.

As far as the slot, I think Cardbus operates at 24 or 32 bit and PCMCIA is 16 bit. Come to think of it I guess my Audigy is Carbus not PCMCIA as it operates at 24 bit. The Indigo is cool because it is full duplex which is cool for DJ applications.

I use the CREATIVE ASIO driver in FL and it works fine. What sample rate were you using? Try uninstalling and reinstalling the driver.
