I went to a friend's B-Day party this weekend in Brooklyn that just did the official Rocafella Remix for Teairra Mari, so there were all kinds of industry heads there along with lawyers and insiders, I met Stimuli and Lord Digga there and there were lots of fine women to mingle with and try and get up on, anyhow he is friends with Bruce Wayne of midi mafia (50 cent 21 questions)and I got to meet him and then talk about some of the same things that usually come up as questions I see on here too, I asked him what a producer that is up and coming needs to do, he said that the thing to do is get your own artist and develop them and develop your own sound as well, he told me his artists are looking for beats too and he gave me his direct contact info.....while I was there also got some beat CD's from some already established producers from another one of my friends that work in the industy as a reference to assist me with the quality, direction and kind of beats I probably need to have on a beat CD(these are the beat CD's they use in meetings and to get on artists projects and give to a label) too that sound like albums LOL no lie, their beat CD have hooks, singers the whole nine and the sound quality like any completed album you would purchase.......

You know what, I can just read how dudes post on this (and other) forum and tell if they are "doing their thing" or just dreaming about it, it sounds like you definitely been at this for a while because you mention that you have people that get your songs listened to in meetings and you have people up in the city (NY) pushing your tracks.
I'm glad to see that you are making moves and then sharing it with illmuzik, honestly you should start one of those blogs because there are millions of producer wannabees who wanna know the steps you took, setbacks etc, (just a thought).

Honestly, I'm jealous though, because I get invited to mostly rock/punk industry events but you get to talk to hip hop producers and all that! I'm inner city born and raised, mingling with punk rock dudes with mohawks and eye-liner (LOL), but hey the goal is to stay working so you won't catch me complaining.

Just stay humble, stay working, and (most importantly) stay connected!

Man here is the thing I started out all on my own then found organizations to help me that charged me and I got no where not because of them but I didn't have the type of feedback I needed and also other things at my disposal which I have now, but then not until recently did connections start turning into faces, and people instead of emails, phone voices etc....people started seeing how hard I was grinding and how determined I am......but it is a shame that from what I found out you can do a lot on your own from the right connections but there are people that make money off of a lot of this stuff you can do on your own, but you have to find the people that are willing to help you......willing to give you HONEST opionions of your music and help you take that and then re-adjust (not Change your style) what you are doing and keep going......I hit a big Rut recently and I had to re-assess.....I am humble...a lot people think not....but if see where my music was first embarking on the journey and see where it is I am going to make it into a testament that if you are serious about being a producer......hard work....studying other producers, networking and staying with it are the key ingredients.......never let anyone tell you that you cannot improve on what you are doing.....its not true....I am a musician before being involved in hip hop.....unfortunatley I didn't pick up a sax or other instrument and instantly start playing and sight reading sheet music.....I was taught and had to learn to become better and PRACTICE....with that it still applies to being successful as a producer.....work at it, and practice....use formulas, beats and styles that are hot in other songs and incorporate those things into what you do, I am not saying copy a style but study a producer that is hot and find the elements that make that song hot, experiment or even try remaking a beat all the way down to the sounds and type of samples and practice..........

anyhow i am on the front end of where big d is right now, hopefully it wont take me quite as long (no disrespect) but i am at the beginning of that same track.....

anyhow congtrats on the developments, it seems the hard work is starting to bear some fruit.

i guess. i just wanted to get an idea on how established producers do their beat cd's. i usually shop my cd's with just beats. most times though, i would try to get an acapella of the labels artists and do a remix so that they can get a picture of how my beats would work out for them. that actually works for me. it worked last week. :) oh and hows that capitol thing goin for ya?

its not, i took a step back for a minute.. partially because i got rescheduled a second time, partially because i was having trouble creating beats in the mold he was asking for, which put me squarely back in the slump i was in for about two months up to that point.... but mainly because of a lot of personal issues i've been dealing with which were part of that slump.........

anyhow i ear what you are saying askin bg d, i mean its up to him... im just saying i dont know if its wise for him to do that, but again thats up to him to decide.

Did you try telling the dude from capitol that you dont want to switch up your beats? it might be kind of late already though coz you did try to compensate his wishes. if you say that you dont wanna switch it up, he might take it as a sign of you not being able to do it. but i say next time, stand your ground. if you think you can change it up then change it but if you think it might be a struggle then dont. my opinion. i went through the same thing you did a year back. bitch made me do the same thing. then in the end she said it wasnt was she was looking for. fuck that! now i just tell the a&r's that i meet to take the beat as it is. ill only switch it up if they let me work with the artist personally. it usually works.

big d! whats up with that cd man? hahaha

^^^^true story

thats the way to go about it.

anyhow p1. yeah i was thinkin that about not switchin up, but he never wanted me to switch up. i dont know how to better explain that situation... he just wanted that kicks to boom more and wanted a darker, grimier tone...... anyhow i am falling back on that for now.... some of my personal issues are clearing up, and i am focused much better now..... but i am falling back and going to be doing more work with bosta (dont know if he knows that yet, lol) and Dicap (currently two tracks are in the works) and i am actively searching for mc's in my area, as well as going back to developing myself as an mc and having meetings with this capitol dude whenever convenient for him... my fall back was based mostly on my personal issues and whatnot..... anyhow this is big d's therad and thinkin about it i dont want to hijack it cause this is about his moves...

and btw, its all love big d, i know we had a few words here and there but (not on some groupie shit either) for real im glad to see you gettin some shine for the grind. peace

Big D,
Man, that's great solid advice...and coming from someone who's been at this for a minute. I'm trying to get my stuff to the "right ears" and I have at least one good contact who is a getting to be a major producer (in gospel) who is right here in Kansas City, MO but trying to get a hold of him is very hard so I try to put out feelers elsewhere. I've been doing most if not all of whay you said, especially the "study other hot producers" part. I have also been at this for a minute. I would like to talk to you. PM me when you can!
