when they master it do they make that shyt sound like the quality u get when u hear for an example a 50 Cent song on CD?

i'm hearing that after your shit is mastered most companies say it will sound as professional as anything in the industry. the problem is the music you submit has too be mixed down properly first. i wanna know how much it costs? if anybody here has done it before. i would say 9 out of 10 people in this forum master there own shit- that kid 1982

That would be a total waste to send 1 beat off to get mastered... If you want to do it go right ahead but I would just start to play with your programs and learn how to use what u got to make it sound good... If you want something to sound like a 50 cent song then go right ahead and send it off... But why? For just one beat?

It's EXTREMELY pointless to get a beat mastered. You aren't even supposed to completely mix a beat w/o vocals... let alone master it...

The point of mastering is to make sure every track on an album is at the same level...

I master my own beats. When I make a beat CD I master it using Sequoia, waves, etc.
It took me a year of reading, Learning, getting used to my Monitors (20/20 Events), and I finally got a process that works everytime...I make my shit bang like my reference CDs.

But this is for the Beat CD. If a client wants a beat. I give them the Pro Tools session non-mastered or anything. just tracked out. But man ever since I did that....I sold way more beats, cause no matter what I play it on, it sounds Good! & All beats Knock the same.

Get into Mastering & mixing...Read Books ( Mastering Audio - Bob Katz)

Check out the mixing engineers handbook by Bobby Owsinski

The perfect mix won't require a lot of mastering if any
Focus more on getting a very very good mix, don't worry about mastering unless it's a critical demo or your being played on the radio.

Don't confuse adding compression and eq, etc to mastering its a whole lot more than that.

well put man. its better to start off with good sounds that are well mixed and balanced, than to use some ruff stuff and try and force it to bang with mad limiting, compression and eq-in. a great mix wont need much re-touching, maybe some fine limiting to make it louder but nothing excessive.

the kid, i say spend like £10 or something and get a lil book on the topic and learn the art yourself. u will end up saving much money in the futre. mastering is an artform on its own, and i know that reading a lil book wont make u master songs perfectly but itll help get alot done and will lead to you needing less assistance.

first of all you will never get your beat to sound like 50 cents even if you got in a super top class a facility, if the beat isnt mixed properly before.

All steps are crucials, from the selection of sound to the sequencing,mixing then mastering.

Wut the mastering do, is make the level of your mix louder, and treat it in a way that it will sound good on many types of speakers. Maximizing, stereo imaging, limiting, compressing adn eq-ing are all steps of mastering.

Getting one of your beat mastered isnt a waste of time or money. You will see wut it can do, and it will give you a better point of view, plus you will see the studio and how it work.

Most of technician are poeple who like to help and they talk a lot with you when you in the studio, so it's an occasion to learn more for your bucks.

Nowaday I have 30 000$ of stuff and im technician since 5 years but i used to go in studios in my early days and i learned a lot, plus a made contacts.

Keep in mind that mastering will change drastically the overall dynamic of your mix, but if you bring a poor mix, it will be the same poor mix at the end, but sounding louder clearer and wider.

Bring a nice banging beat and you will be happy of the results.

All this is true. You can never get enough knowledge from reading Books, sitting with mastering engineers, etc. I've done both of these and still doing more.

Mastering will breathe new life into great mixes, and those which aren't so great, but while considering this, it's important to realize what mastering cannot do. Often people will ask me if I can just turn up the guitars or make the vocals louder on a certain song in the mastering, and in so many words, this is impossible to do during mastering and must be done during the mix. It IS possible to create the illusion of more vocal clarity or to bring the guitar-prevalent frequencies more to the front, but since the song has already been mixed, it is impossible to make drastic changes in these areas without affecting other parts of the mix. A good mastering engineer will also listen carefully to the final product and if there are any glitches, static, vocal pops or other nasty noises in there, it is possible to remove many of these artifacts but also not without affecting the entire mix at those spots, so it's a touchy and time consuming practice. Of course, the best mastering jobs are the natural result of the best mixing jobs.

There are 2 diffrent types of mastering that I know of.. DIGITAL ONLY & ANALOG & DIGITAL.

If your gonna get your stuff mastered...you need not apply compression or limiting on the master. leave it at a good mix and keep it under -2db or -3db, this gives the Mastering engineer a lot of headroom to work with, and your mix will sound that much better.

I only do Digital Mastering....I'am no pro Master, but I get some good results from all the Knowledge I've absorbed. But I keep my price cheap for the local cats here. $200 full album 8-15 songs. and $20 a song/beat
