In the last month or so I've bought two laptops. My most recent one is a MacBook. I'm thinking about using it as my mobile DJing computer and a mobile music production computer. My first laptop is strictly designed for music production so I know what it can do. The only reason I finally bought a Mac is because you can now use Windows XP on them thru a cool utility they have called "boot camp". I bought windows xp full version to throw on it so it'll now dual boot operating systems.

Anybody on ILL using the MacBook for music production? Any if so what music software are you running on it? Ableton, Logic, Reason?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

pretty much all of them are good. i used to run ableton alot but when my hd crashed earlier this year i never found another krack cocaine hit of it ;). i run pro tools, bias peak, and recycle mostly. It kinda sucks with pro tools though because pro tools runs on its own audio driver so basically when pro tools is running on a digi interface u cant run any other audio program unless u happen to have two interfaces. A HUGE pita that i need a solution for. fux up my workflow like crazy. I want ableton again though. that program is great. I used to make and monitor my beats with ableton and hardware and then track them in pro tools to mix. but now i do evrything in pro tools. which i dont mind, but it sux that i cant have recycle, peak, or even itunes running at the same as pro tools. what a PITA.

oh yeah ur talking specifally about the macbook.... ive ran logic express and garageband with success. I got wifey a macbook and its more powerful than my imac ( i still rock the g5) i currently use on all my production so i doubt u will have any problems running anything on it.

I got a macbook pro about 1 1/2 years old. I use it for everything such as production, recording, live Dj'n, movie editing and etc. Softwares installed on my laptop are Serato, Final Cut, Ableton Live, Logic Pro 8, & various of VST plugins. I travel with my laptop all the time and I haven't had any major problems with it while I'm using it for live gigs. The only problem I had with it so far is when some of the buttons on the keyboard stopped functioning on and off. Good thing it was still under warranty so I brought it to apple and they replaced the top panel where the trackpad is and replaced the keyboard and everything worked fine. It was my fault for spilling soda on the laptop but I didn't mention that to them LOL. Oh and another thing, I've been having trouble burning CD's on my laptop lately. It could've been the new update that fucked it up or I just need to clean the lens in the optic drive. As far as that goes, my laptop has been through hell and back and it's still functioning well.

I got a couple homeboyz that have the MacBook Pro. The tell me that my new regular MacBook is much better than there pro because of the new processor. I just want to make sure it can handle the load that waves mercury bundle will put on it.

I have the Apple warranty and I purchased a 3 year service plan from the store that I bought it. It covers "everything" including the screen for 36 months. If anything happens to it they give me a loaner while they fix it. I said I'd never go back to Mac but since u can use windows xp it pulled me back.

macbook pro 2.2 c2d, 4gb, nothing but sweetness, logic, fl and no ext. audio, in the studio i hook up to an motu 8 pre im looking into the rme express34 interface with an rme multiface as their sound is just a bit better than motu and because its not firewire but pci based...with logic on it and mpk49 or mpc with ultrabeat or exs24 runs like a charm.

Black Macbook 2.16 Intel Core 2
Logic Pro 7
Reason 3.5
Onkyo Audio Interface
MPC 2500

I want to eventually get an interface with eight inputs so I can send 8 outs from the MPC so I can process the sound a little better. The Onkyo has a stereo in and out but it also has 3 usb ports on it so I have my Axiom, USB mic and MPC hooked to it. I have to bounce tracks from the MPC manually muting each track and recording it. I use recycle to chop samples so I can use them in Reason and then I export them and use MPC Pad 187 to create the programs and just copy them to the MPC.

nope

Same thing I've been hearing! The one I have only came with 1GB of memory but since Mac uses memory diff't than a pc should I upgrade to 2GB if I'm running Logic, Serato and my other music software i.e Ableton, Reason 4?

get kingston value ram, i purchased 4gb 667mhz 5300 for 76 euro somewhere...you can use the kingston wizard to look up which of their modules is suitable for which mac.

also, i dunno why but mac has changed the L2, my late 2007 mbp has 4mb L2 cache, the new ones have 3mb L2 cache... the penryn vs santa rosa...im not to bother really but indeed the processor alone doesnt make the unit better as i really like the 8600 card in there instead of onboard intel video.

I actually found a good memory deal right here. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231135 It's the lowest price I've found online and the price includes shipping. $74 for 4GB I know that's a deal!

you can get Parallels, and run xp that way. that's what i do on my iMac. when you run it this way, XP loads in a window, so you can use both the mac, and windows at the same time. works flawlessly.

i also have a macbook pro with the bootcamp functionality, but i don't use it. i use paralles on that one too.
