by pressing a few buttons,

naw, go to the tutorial on the home page and look at the tutorial on layering drums, but it depends what you use.

Tweak nobs on mods. that helps to. i do it all the time with my proteus. all so play with the pitch on the mpc if sampled. if no, sample the kick into you mpc from the mod.

U can also take the original drum and distort it and turn down its volume a lil, then take another one of the original kicks and compress it and turn its volume down to a bit more than the distorted drum and a bit less than the original and layer the three and that works pretty well for me. but mess around wit the volumes to get it to sit right.
Peace out.

I read a really nice piece in Computer Music on how to make a hard "thudding kick drum".

1) "Find a goood kick drum sample that features lots of front end "click" so it cuts through the mix. Now load it into your sample editor. Trim it, and give it a bit of EQ to give it more "oomph".

2) "Next load up a sub tone sample, that fades out at the same point as the kick drum sample. Regualr sine wave is perfect

3) "Now use your mix function to mix the two samples together"

Hope that helped
