7 Aug 2005

BiGD
Hello Kev How are you doing man, good to finally connect with you as I am a fan of your music also

Kev
No doubt man. Thanx...

BiGD
What are your favorite spots to hang out at when you are back at home in the DC area, do you like the Redskins ?

Kev
Favorite spots? I stay home alot...go to the movies every once in a while. Its a lounge in D.C. called Tryst that I go 2 every now and then... I live pretty close 2 the Redskins stadium. Im not really a big football fan tho...

BiGD
Kev you seem like a low key guy not wanting to be in the spotlight is this true?

Kev
Most of the time this is true. But sometimes the spotlight is cool...

BiGD
How long have you been producing and when did you realize you were going to make this your profession?

Kev
Ive been doin trax seriously since like 2000. Im still trying 2 make if my profession... ha...

BiGD
What was it like working with Jazzy Jeff?

Kev
Workin at A.T.O.J. was cool creative wise. Jeff is the most precise deejay ive ever heard.

BiGD
What other legends in Hip Hop have you worked with?

Kev
Biz, Marley Marl, Grap Luva, Pete Rock, Dela Soul, Bahamadia...

BiGD
Who and what were your biggest influences on the music you make?

Kev
Probably just the stuff i grew up listenin to growin up... alot of soul music and gospel...then when i got a little older I got into hip-hop.

BiGD
What are your favorite pieces of equipment?

Kev
Well, 4 the past 5 years Ive been usin the akai mpc 2000xl...

BiGD
Can you give any hints on your signature basslines or production that would help an up and coming producer?

Kev
Im not really doin anything "spectacular" when it comes 2 my bass lines. All im doin is usin the "16 levels" function on the mpc. To up and coming producers I would say dont jump on the bandwagon of whats "hot". Try and stay origional cuz you never know if the style youre doin now might be the next big thing...

BiGD
Are you more popular in the US or Overseas and do you think that Tru Skool or the hop hop you make coming back?

Kev
Sometimes I feel like the style of music I do is more popular outside the U.S. Ive done shows overseas before and the response I get over there is alot crazier over there than what i get at home. Even in Canada the response is greater...

BiGD
Are you planning a project with Common or if not would you consider it?

Kev
If Common is tryin 2 get at me for tracks Im down...

BiGD
What do you think about Cy Young? I had a chance to meet him a few years ago and see him perform to me he is the epitome of emcee.

Kev
Cy is one of the nicest emcees ever. period. Hopefully if these lables stop frontin on me n my crew, there will be a greater outlet for our music to be heard...

BiGD
What is your next big project?

Kev
Just gettin ready for my album 2 come out. Its called "I do what I do". It'll be in stores Sept. 20th.

BiGD
Ok Kev I will close this out but it's good to get you to do the interview for vipradio, thanks and peace! if you have any shout outs
