Some people have imagination and some people don't. You can't expect everybody to have imagination. Some people will hear a demo and go does it do any other kind of music? Well, all kinds of music that we know use the same 12 notes. Of course, it does all kinds of music. It's all a matter of how you put those notes and sounds together.

Some people think one keyboard or another is good for hip hop or for jazz and another keyboard is… No! any keyboard is good for whatever you do. One of the things that I always find funny is people wondering does it have hip hop sounds? I have had somebody ask me that question and I was like well what do you mean by hip hop sounds?

Eminem had this tune out and it had a harpsichord sound that he uses for the main line. It was a harpsichord. Is a harpsichord a hip hop sound? If it’s used it in a hip hop tune then it is. So any sound can be used anywhere.

I find that statement so interesting since so many threads revolve on whether or not a module/keyboard is good for XX genre. So many cats ask "What's the best VST for...?"
Very weird when it's applied to a workstation since ROMplers specialize in traditional instrument sounds.

It's almost like that producer has no confidence in his own skills and needs a huge banner that says "YOU CAN MAKE BEATS WITH THIS, NO REALLY- YOU CAN! EASY AS 1 2 3"

I took the most orchestra sounding piece, it's by a french artist and turned it into a hip-hop song. Hip-hop is what ever you make it.

I thought this thread was gonna be about porn

So did I. Porn and hip-hop go hand-in-hand (literally.)

Someone try pitch shifting a woman making an orgasm and syncopate it over your bassline. Place phat beat under it and KAPOW, an instant classic.

^^^ still...its the sound dude, i worked at at company that had thrown them away and i had no clue..anyway, for saturation purposes you can easily use a video tape recorders like u-matic but indeed, might be something for the bedroom techies without a reel2reel

Im sure it would be nice on drums...
I heard that mixing down to a S-VHS tape can give a certain saturation.......but not as nice as a 1/2 " tape...cause of the limited bandwith used stricly for audio on the s-vhs tape.

Have you had any good experiences with Umatic or s-vhs....

^^^ thats just the thing, i missed out on checking because i didnt realize what u-matic was grrrr...the company threw away mint condition sony u matic stereo recorder with remotes. We did do some track to tape of just drumtracks for sampling purposes on a Fostex D16 reel but it had hardly any saturation on it.
