What do you mean "i just have a speaker wire hooked up to the ground on the turntable"? It does sound like it would be the ground wire, or any wire for that matter.

That's gotta be it. Where's the original ground wire? Can you buy a new one?
i have no clue where the original is, i can prolly go to radioshack and get one , i didnt think it mattered tho, a wire is a wire right?

I would conect the end of the wire that is not connected to anything to your mixer's ground, on the back of your mixer.

yeah i tried grounding it to a screw on the amp, nuthin happened,if i hold the wire between two fingers the humming will stop, im guessing its because my feet are on the floor and im grounded? but i cant find anything i canhook it up to permanantly that will get the umming to stop, and i cant hand the wire between 2 fingers while im recordin 1 hour long lps ya know

reminds me when we didn't have cable an had to use a tv antenna. when the antenna broke the channel was fuzzed untill you used your fingers like you said. if you used a small piece of metal it wouldn't work. I have to use a touch the wire onto this big metal piece for it too pick up. I know your not trying to pick up a signal but maybe it's the same principal somehow, if the screw on the amp was not specifically grounded than it would just be a very small piece of metal and become as polarized as the wire itself, I think you need a piece of metal big enough to diffuse the polarization.
