Shit, well theres nothing wrong with that i think. Im kind of in a transitional period as well becuase i really like to make organic sounding hiphop joints and they turn out good, but i also like to make piano melodies alot and ive actually made a shit load of beats of that style but im afraid to unleash them on my small fanbase since their used to my sampled sound now. I dont know if thats really the same actually but i think i relate somewhat.

I say just keep growin class. Keep doin hiphop, but maybe try to expand on your R&B side a little more then normal - maybe something great will come of it?

Class do whats natural, being a musician at any organized level and coming into production is going to sort of have an impression....to me if you in a business state of mind...sure hip hop is money....but RnB...I mean DarkChild and Jaheim Rnb is BIG...also if you going for hip hop not to insult you or anyone else....you have to think primitive first........boom and the bap...erase all of that good ol theory for a minute or a week....think first the beat by itself....for me its a neck breaking formula for my pattern and there are probably 10 I use and only change up every now and then.......then find the sickest part of a sample add it.....listen for a minute....sick but easy bassline nothing complex 2 notes and maybe a 2 5 1 .... or 1 4 5 on the 4th or eighth measure thats it.....then before you know it you got a banger......you got hip hop too though but balance is better and you can easily go back and forth.....its easy to overthink the good ol effective gutter banger....ingredient....simple repetitive loop and ocassional switch up...when someone is head bobbin they dont want interuption....so forget the fortissimos, mezzo forte, 13ths, fifths and ninths.....but of course you can do all of that but its not necessary for the banger most emcees seek out.....

I 2nd what BIGDMAKINTRAX said. I will add that with R&B its good if you at least know some basic piano chords and how they fit with everything else going on in your music. You can visit my website for some R&B samples. Just continue to listen and study.

iv listened to your joints and i do get a little RnB vibe. buts its all good, more ladies in RnB my friend!

its good to be a hybrid though, look at Timbo, he did sweet soft joints for Aaliyah, Justin Timberlake, but he also makes street bangers.

I agree to an extent with Nomics...its the extent of RnB you speaking on too though....the track itself is a canvas, sometimes what an artists paints on it defines the genre its gonna eventually fall in, but you cant put a Rodney Jergins musically composed track up against a heatmakers track and expect there to be some unanimity on where the RnB line is though but that to me is an example of defining differences in a raw instrumental track whether its RnB or hip hop, but the heatmakers track could be used for a Mary J song and then it falls in the RnB genre whereas the nice sparkly jergins track gonna turn off more rappers than the heatmakers track would though because its composition probably will apply to something a singer might use... ....Jah Rule can rap and half sing over a pop borderline RnB cut and it becomes hip hop or whatever, Pac was good for taking a cut you could easily hear a singer on and turn it into a perfect hip hop storyteller, I think there has been a blur in the Genres recently because the singers have chosen to use more energetic drum heavy, urban vibes for their canvas, but its going back to there being a distinction and more musicianship in some of the tracks that are coming out now especially RnB ballads, I think the artist dictates more than the producer what the tracks intended audience is gonna pull..........I think thats a good thing too....just my opinion.....you get the idea....

but imma just add the comment for Classic....dont you think your stock can only go up if you got all the bases covered? you wanna maximum return on all of those years of classical musical training right?.....fuck what people tell you where the tracks fall just make music and keep going Classic....

I feel you in some way. Some people told me that I make to much "soft/sad" songs and melodic shit. But when I'm starting a beat, the first thing i wanna do is do a melody with chord progression. But the average rapper doesn't want that kind of beat, they want this hard beats with no emotion other than anger or they want a club beat.

So now i trie to make beats, with less melody, but I have this feeling that I'm not totally doing what I'd really really would like to do, eventhough I like to make hard banger beats. So after i establish myself as a rap producer, imma do a Scott Storch and venture in the RnB shit too

Man alot of snoop's last cd was rnb type joints and it was banging. shit what tha fuck happened to rnb. I'm a hip-hop head to death, but if any of us truly appreciate our music, then u gotta miss what rnb used to be. shit, i be glad to put it on the grown folk station every now and then to hear what real music used to be. don't twist what i'm sayin, i'm talkin contentwise. i get tired of the same old content. im 28 years old, and i grew up on guy, troop, new edition, bell biv devoe, fuck. DAMNIT BOBBY BROWN. dude don't get all that publicity for nothing. they had an influence on music. only way anybody on this site can say they don't like rnb is if u a young cat. i think when rnb lost its following is when rap started blowing up and the labels started requiring that at least every rnb song released had a rap feature on it.thats where it lost its identity.if you dont like rnb then what tha fuck are yall sampling?somebody ring in with me.jodeci? fuck. didn't yall get yall lil grind on at the dance when keith sweat came on?not a rant at all.but classic, do you.i made some rnb tracks by accident and im proud as fuck of em.cuz i DIDN'T think i could.maybe when i start posting tracks i'll let yall check em out.

a lot of cats are rhyming over straight r&b beats and that makes it hip hop, so dont worry about that just do what you do. if its heat its heat, point blank.
