From what I've learned (with the chance that it may be incorrect).
A). Make a dope marketable product.
B). Have the indie label register your product with soundscan.
C). Release the record locally.
D). Hope you get good record sales.
E). Take the proof from soundscan that you have sold good and have them try and get a national distribution deal with a larger label.
F). If all goes well, your atist may find himself/herself on MTV.
This is the big picture.l There's a lot of hard work inbetween.
